I have a maytag dryer that has stop running here is what happened and what I have done so far. The dryer got chocolate in it one the the kids, I cleaned it out but there was an electric smell to the dryer after that and then it would not work a few days later, I tripped the breaker turned it back on and the dryer worked again for about two days and then the same thing again, now the breaker trip does not work. The light is on in the drum there is no brun marks near the block or on any of the wiring, I have checked both thermal fuses and the venting system all is good there, the timer does not want to run now either. Is this a power problem or do I need to replace some part of the unit?

Re: dryer not working but the light is on
Add peanut butter for better taste. lol... but seriously, the dryer should be be disassembled somewhat so that all the chocolate (or the residue it left) can be completely cleaned out. Unplug it of course. Get a can of electrical spray cleaner from an auto parts store and squirt off everything electrical inside.

there is no pilot light. electric igniter will glow and pull amps allowing gas valve to open. if you do not see igniter glow it is bad or thermal fuse has blown. look for 120 volts at the igniter when running. if voltage found bad igniter, if no voltage trace back to fuse/stats.this assumes dryer is actually running. if drum not turning could be a number of things. door switch, fuse, etc
I think that the most likely thing that has happened is that the cord has shorted at the terminal block. Disconnect the power from the wall and then pull the cover off the back of the dryer and I think that you will find the problem there. It will be obvious.
I assume this is Gas dryer from the model number having a G. The door switch may cause the problem. If its not running the dryer thinks the door is open? And the light will also stay off. You can jump around the wires on the door switch and see if it works then if so its switch time.
I don't think a thermal fuse should have anything to do with the light. But that's not a bad idea for quick trouble shooting if a manufacturer would do it. Use a volt meeter to verify the voltage you may have enough for the timer to make noise but not enough to make it turn and the dryer to run.
If there is power then try rotating the tub slightly. The motor may have stuck. Don't turn it too far unless you know which way the drum turns. and try alkways to turn it that direction. Keeps your belts on.
If this helped you please rate me accordingly and good luck.
do you mean it doesn't heat or does not run at all. i would check the door switch, if its not running at all. try opening the door and push the door switch closed by hand, if the light doesn't go out replace the switch
