I've tried just about everything from pressing top left corner while powering on...pressing lower right corner while powering on...holding the power on/off button for 8 or so seconds...unplugging the battery for a few mins. or so...no luck. When I turn it on it goes to the garmin screen for about 5 seconds then it's like it reboots it self then back to the garmin screen (relooping) until I turn it off.Help!?

SOURCE: trying to reset my garmin nuvi 350 but per-boot

(G-Brand): Place your finger over the lower left-hand corner of the screen (upper left-hand corner for a 6xx series) and hold it there while pressing the on/off power button. Keep holding your finger there and a window should pop up asking if you want to go into maintenance mode. Select yes. There is an option called "clear user data". Select that option. It will not erase your favorites. It will however, erase any corrupted satellite data and will default you back to some factory settings and to a location of the manufacturer's headquarters in Kansas. This will also force your GPS to collect new satellite data. Your GPS should reboot and it will ask you a couple questions like, timezone, language. Please select the proper settings.

Try resetting the unit and also charge it using only the wall charger overnight. Here's how to reset -it just puts everything back to factory settings - 1- Turn unit on WHILE HOLDING your thumb in the lower right corner as shown in picture. 2-Select YES PLEASE Take the time to vote me up this is my only reward for trying to help. I put oin a new address , hit Go and my Garmin nuvi just keeps re routing me back to where I am.

Hi Nancy,

You might try a "RESET" to solve this problem:

Turn your Garmin on WHILE pressing bottom right corner of the screen. This will reset your data back to factory defaults. This will remove favorites, vehicles, etc. - but maps will remain.

Next, install the latest Garmin firmware for your GPS. This can solve a lot of "strange" problems:

Go Garmin's WebUpdater Page, click on "Step 1 DOWNLOAD", from there choose the Operating System on your computer and either run or save the file, install this software and then run the software with your Garmin connected to the computer.

Difficulty typing? Try a screen recalibration:

Turn your Garmin on WHILE pressing the top left corner of the screen. This will allow you to recalibrate your screen and holding the Use a pencil (instead of a finger) to touch the dots for the best accuracy.

If this was helpful, please rate it "4 thumbs up" - Thanks & good luck!

My Garmin nuvi 255w thinks we are in Belgium instead of in UK, so can't recognize British cities, and gives Belgian addresses for fuel, accommodation, etc. 'View map' shows the approximate...

You can try two things to try and get the Nuvi to act normally:

1) soft reset: Press the power-on button for at least 20 seconds - starting from power off. It should restart.

2) master reset: This will revert to factory defaults erasing all POI's, Favourites, Tracks, Routes etc. From power-off hold the lower right corner for at least 20 seconds while pressing the power-on button once. A question should appear to erase all user data. Press yes and it will revert to factory defaults.

Garmin nuvi turns on, but goes black after attempting to load maps.

Try and connect the Nuvi to a PC / Mac using an USB cable. Connect the cable first before powering the PC / Mac - make sure the Nuvi is powered off.

Then turn on the PC / Mac. The Nuvi should go into communication mode making it possible to update the internet software (if available on MyGarmin.com). This might fix the problem.

If there's no software update available at MyGarmin.com - try a master reset. This will clear all user data (POI's / Favorites, Tracks, routes) going back to factory defaults.

A master reset is started by pressing the lower right corner for at least 20 seconds while pressing the power-on button once. A question appears to clear all user data.

Screen seems OK but there is no way to interface as it does not respond to touch. Unit is 255w and about 2 years old.

The solution to this problem is for you to calibrate the screen. Before calibrating the screen, i will advice you reset the gps. To reset your device, hold down the power button for about 15 seconds, it will restart itself and power up fully, if the touch screen does not still work, then calibrating the screen will do the job for you. To calibrate the screen, follow the steps below:
  1. Turn off your nuvi,
  2. Hold the upper left corner of the screen, then turn on the nuvi,
  3. Release the power key once the garmin screen appears,
  4. Continue to hold the upper left corner of the screen for 30 seconds till a white screen with 'touch dots' appears,
  5. Then follow the rest of the guide from there.
It might take a few tries before it works for you but you have to keep trying till you get it right. I am very certain that this will work for you.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 255W and the screen will not work

it could be your digitizer or it could be locked up...try turning it on, then hold the slide switch to turn it off for about 15 seconds, then power it back on...if that fails, with the unit off, press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and then slide the power switch toward the on position and you should see a screen asking if you want to erase all personal data (note: this will erase al your favorites) let go of screen and select yes and follow on screen instructions...

if none of those solutions work, download the web updater and see if you have the latest updates.

Garmin Web Updater HERE

if all the above fail..i would say you need a digitizer ...there about 20-30 on ebay

let me know if you need further help
