HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA standard filters can filter particulate matter upto 0.3 microns and that's the reason HEPA type air purifiers are usually considered the most effective type of air purifiers but these days with advancement in technology we have filters which are a notch better than the HEPA standard . For instance the new patented e2f filter employed in our Clair range of air purifiers can capture particles upto 0.1 microns in size making the particulate capturing efficiency of e2f filter slightly higher than the standard HEPA air purifiers.

Why HEPA certified Filters are more preferred?

The HEPA certified air purifier by far has been the best type useable since it is very efficient. The most advantageous aspect of this type of air purifier is that does not emit any by-product or secondary pollutants like ozone that is so very harmful. Buy certified HEPA filter air purifier to maintain the freshness of the room.

Are there filters that have to be changed and where do you get them?

Yes. You will have a prefilter and after that you will have a HEPA filter. Keep good maintenance on the prefilters which are not washable. You will need to check it once a month to see if it is time to replace. If you have good maintenance on the unit and change the cheaper prefilter, you will get years of service out of you HEPA filter. Bad maintenance means replacing the HEPA filter which is a good chunk of the cost of the purifier.

Is this purifier hepa or ozone?

Strictly speaking it is both and neither! It incorporates a high voltage source (18kV) which has the potential to create ozone, though the manufacturer does not claim that ozone is the means by which micoorganisms are defeated. It also incorporates an 85% efficient HEPA filter, but teams it with EMF technology (their own patented technology using the 18kV energy field) to increase the HEPA efficiency to 99.99% (their claim).
