Last week my projector shut itself off and went into a mode where it had the Power, Status & Lamp indicators lit and it wouldn't respond to being cut on from the remote or the actual unit. All that happens when you turn the power switch in the back of the unit to the on position is the 3 indicators light up. No fan activity, no lamp activity, no anything! My bulb warning had just recently appeared a few weeks prior, so I thought the bulb must have gone out and the unit went into some sort of standby mode because it needed replacing. I ordered the new bulb and installed it but the same problem remains. I have searched the manual and the net for a solution but can't find the 3 steady lights problem in any troubleshooting menu or forum. I am desperate and dying without my projector! If anyone has a suggestion please let me know! Thank you so much!
If your bulb finally reaches it's end before you have the chance to replace it you unit will shut itself down and go into a permanent standby mode. Changing the bulb alone will not remedy the issue. The solution is quite simple but not posted in the manual or anywhere else that I could find for that matter! All that is required is to hold down the HELP button on your remote for 10 seconds while aiming at the infrared sensor on the unit. This will reset the units bulb timer and remove it from the standby mode.

steady orange means projector in standby mode
red light 6 times is a lamp error.
either the lamp is old and wont start up or the ballast power pcb is not working.
can you hear the sparking of the high voltage trying to strike the lamp.
if you can then the lamp may be dodgy.
can you borrow one to test it out

Hi Craig, If you get no lamp light at all coming from the main projection lens then odds are the lamp ballast or power supply has failed. These can usually be repaired & is a common fault among the VT series projectors. If one of the fans are stuck the unit normally still lights up for a few seconds up to 20 seconds or more until the extra heat trips the safety shutoff & shuts down the projector. REPAIRS: If you

the power supply on that model seem to go bad after a while. the caps aren't properly reted it's power needs. they dry up. if you are good at soldering, replace c1 on the board (big cap) with a cap that has a slightly higher voltage rating. or replace the whole power supply. you might not be able to get one from nec, but you can try www.projectordoctor.com
