I have a Dell Latitude Cpi A366XT. All of a sudden, it wouldnt start windows. When I turn it on, it loads up dell, then it goes to a screen that says "Disk I/O error: Status 00001012, Windows couldn't start because the file is missing or corrupt: \system32\ntoskrnl.exe."
I have no clue what this means, hopefully you can help me in my bind.
Thanks,

Re: Hard Drive problem
Hi, it means you need to reinstall windows xp,
but could be a faulty hard drive that caused it, if you can find out which make of hard drive it is, ie maxtor, western digital etc u can download a test program from there website to tell you if its damaged or not..
Hope it helps
John

Windows files are corupt or the hard drive has issues, try and reload operational system if disc is available, have the hardware checked if unable to load.
Sorry to say but actually your windows has become corrupted, may be due to improper shutdown or power failure. do one thing try to start your windows with previous known configuration that worked .(option already available on boot screen).if this does not work enter your windows cd and choose repair windows option when prompted.follow the instruction that proceeds.you will recover previous status of your pc.
I got desktop rebooting that was solved by memory replacement, you have to determine what worked prior to the error and revert any change to another method
Try to connect and external keyboard to it
with the external monitor.
If the shortcut is in the keypads where most off the beer propably came in contact.
will now be seen if its boots up.
If it boots up with external keyboard the ptoblem is in the beer soaked keyboard.
change or clean the keyboard with isoprophanol
to dissolve moisture and beer.
This is the solution. Please vote!!!
