Question about Motorola CP185 (16 Channels) Two Way Radio
Just curious as to if there is a way to tell by the serial number or any other information I can gather by just looking at it? I bought one off EBay, and without thinking didn't realize that the seller did not state which band it is on. Thank you!
CP185 AAH03RDF8AA7AN The "R" equal to UHF Radio
CP185 AAH03KDF8AA7AN The "K" equal to VHF Radio
The model number tells you what Frequency band the radio is in.

Hi christo,
Yes the serial No. usually indicates the frequency band the radio works on, but not always, because a lot of radios nowadays can operate on both VHF & UHF, so not being familiar with your model, I can't give you a definitive answer.
I do have the feeling, for what it's worth, that it is in fact a UHF band radio, but don't take that as gospel.

SOURCE: how can i tell if i have a UHF radio or VHF radio
You can use the model number to tell if you are VHF or UHF. You will still need to know the frequency(s) and PL code(s) your radios have to get radios to match.
VHF model number starts with P93.
UHF model number starts with P94.
The current replacement radio for the SP50 is the CP200. It is construction grade and was made to replace the SP50. There are other radios which will also match the SP50 including (but not limited to) the BPR40 and the new CP185.

SOURCE: is the motorola MU21CV a UHF or VHF??????
MU21CV is a UHF radio.
MU= UHF
MV = VHF
