Gaggia Classic - water not flowing

Hello there.
So water isn't flowing through my Gaggia Classic. I know I've been bad and not taken good enough care of it to let it get into this state.
I called Gaggia who reckon it just needs descaling, and will charge me 80 quid to repair it including postage.
The usual descaling procedure won't work, as I can't flush a descaling solution through the system.
I've removed the top of the machine and can see that when I turn the pump on, water comes up one of the tubes just about 2cms, then back down, and back and forth. It's trying to **** water up but it can't.
The other tube (that starts in the middle of the machine) looks like it has water inside it, near where it connects to the rest of the piping.
Any suggestions? I was thinking:

- pull the the two pipes up out of the holes that lead to the water tank and hold them up vertically - turn the whole machine upside down, so that all the water inside the pipes drains out of the pipes - make a 4x normal strength descaling solution - funnel a small amount into each pipe - wait 5 minutes - repeat all the above - then try to do the normal descaling-run-a-solution-through-the-machine
Any help appreciated!

Cheers, -Phil

Remove the screw and shower in the group, then press the brew button, if water flows then clean shower. I will send instructions for descale and backflush. Cut time for backflush by half.

Hi
If you don't have the pressure it may be the pump. Vibration pump Gaggia Rancillio or you have a blockage in the solenoid. For solenoid , partially remove 1 solenoid screw and try to make a coffee - water will pour from solenoid and hopefully clear the blockage .

Low flow, pump starts normal and within a few second becomes quiete

Hi There,
Try descaling - sounds like the the solenoid is blocked with lime - don't use vinegar! Try that 1st.
If machine is more that 2 years - not regularly descaled or no water filter replaced regularly, it probably the solenoid.
It the machines is 4 years + replacing both would be a good idea. Gaggia classic solenoid Vibration pump Gaggia Rancillio

No steam or water through steam wand on Gaggia Titanium

Try this, push in on the knob when the flow stops, if that works, then the tap rod needs to be replaced. If your machine has the plastic steam valve assembly, try to get the stainless steel steam valve, I noticed that you have replaced once.

On my new Gaggia Vogue the eclamation mark is flashing all the time and it has never produced any water through the steampipe. Done all the suggestions in the manual but no succes. Water enough, coffee...

3 things I can think of...
1. if the steam/water knob is not exactly at the off position my exclamation mark flashes.
2. have you primed the water circuit?
3. taken the brew group out and put it back in?
good luck. it's a great machine once it's working!

Gaggia Classic (3 months old). Suddenly there is steam only, no water flow.

If there is no water from the head then remove the screw and screen, then press brew button, if water flows clean shower, using a pair of plies hold screen over open flame, coffee will burn out of the small holes. If no water after trying above then remove the 2 allen wrench screws and carefully remove the diffuser and seat with spring, now try running the head, if water flows reassemble and you are back in busines, if no water descale machine.

Same problem with my classic gaggia.

Hi Marc

Just bought one this week with exactly the same problem. As a last resort I opened it up to find the pump had come off the rubber support kinking the pipes beneath so no water could get in.

Undo the 2 philips screws on the top, take off the lid and water filler spout and take look. Looking down from the front of the machine, the pump is at the back to the left. If it's just floating in space as mine was, simply push it gently back into the rubber support beneath making sure you don't kink the pipes.

Mine came by DHL from Italy with no right side up marked on the box, so no wonder it came loose!

Hope this fixes it.

Matt
