Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV81 Camcorder
Hi, I have a Sony Model CCD-V801 Hi-8mm Handycam which has worked w/o any problems up until now (purchased new in 1991 ) ! When in VTR, or any playback mode, it does not play the video. It records fine, as far as I know. It goes through all of the motions to record and seems to be recording. But, as mentioned, when I try to play, nothing, nada, zilch. ANY help here would be greatly appreciated: 1. Any thoughts on what may be the problem/cause? 2. If so, is this something that I could attack, I am an Electrical Engineer and quite familiar with electronics. 3. Is it worth repairing this, if I do repair, as well as if I send it out? 4. Is this unit worth bothering with since it is so old? I do, would have liked to get the videos onto my computer for transfer to DVD's. Thank you very much for your time and help. It is greatly appreciated. Fond Regards, Don Schipani [email protected]
Yes, it would be worthwhile try to clean video head by camcorder technician. The deep cleaning of video head can be performed by technician only not tape cleaner. It may cost you minimum bench charge at most around $10-30. If other than video head cleaning, it may not worth investing into this camcorder due to the age of all electronics and mechanism. For general repair cost for these models run anywhere from $100 to $200 and will carry a warranty around 90 days. Good luck.

Hai, Check with previous recorded tape, If it is not playing. Clean video head with head cleaning cassatte. Before that please check is it going to VTR mode & also is it takes play indication. Then check with pre-recorded cassatte. thank you best of luck udupi
