My Brother IntelliFax 4100e is not working.
I recently moved it, and we were able to get
a fax, but upon trying to send one, the machine
beeped when buttons were pushed. I unplugged
the machine, and now there is a red icon that blinks
and the machine makes a pathetic beeping sound.
The LCD screen is just vertical lines.

Does the machine actually answer the incoming call? If so does it give an error code? Are you using the genuine brother line lead? Finally make sure the line lead is plugged into the "line" socket and not the "tel" socket.
Try calling the fax machine from your mobile and see if it picks up or if anything shows up on the screen of the fax machine. Is it possible that you have plugged the fax machine into the wrong telephone line? Try sending a fax to your mobile phone and see that the number is correct.
You need to open the front cover of the machine and remove the
cartridge (drum and toner) On the top right there is a tab that you
need to slide from left to right about 20 times, then bring back to
home position
Try changing the sleep mode settings. Sometimes it's set too long or too short. You can try the perimeter reset as well. The instructions I have for that is as follows:
hit the menu button and numbers *2864 (star before the four numbers) then hit 91(set) wait a few seconds for the maintenance screen to return then hit 99(set) when it beeps saying completed that could fix your problem.
With the front cover still open, you should press Clear ("Replace Drum?" should appear on the display), and then 1 for Yes. Wait for "Accepted" message and close cover. It may be necessary to remove the drum unit and put it back in, and then, with the cover open, do the a/m procedure.
