Question about Sony KP-51WS510 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Sony TV Repair

I have a 2003 Sony TV Model# KP-51WS510. It is giving the 8 error code flashes = Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. Is this something I should tackle myself? I don't want to throw a ton toward a tv that is out of warranty, etc.

I have the same problem, manuals and help desks advice to contact a Sony help line to find out what the problem is. I now know what the problem is, just trying to find out how much this repair would cost me.

I have been having the same trouble with our TV. It turns off and blinks for 8 times. Repair guy replaced a board, but didn't work. Now, we will be out over $800 to get it fixed, so now we are looking into another TV.

My sony kp-51ws510 has started having color issues, the blues and yellows and greens are not lined up and the picture sometimes looks like I have a tracking issue if I were to be playing a VCR. I tried the alignment, but it did not help. I do not have any lights flashing or anything.

Is the board bad? Is it worth trying to fix or just get a new TV?

I have Sony KP- 51WS500 ..2002 it is shutting off and standby light flashes 8t time

Sony Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

51ws500 sony shuts down and standby light flashes 8 times

Eight blinks points to an audio output problem. The unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

Hope that helps.

Tv trys to start. you'll hear audio for two secounds, no picture, then 8 flashing lights, repeats after a few secounds 8 more flashes etc,etc

There is a problem in the audio circuit or the high voltage circuits. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. Check also the flyback transformer T8005 or the associative components around it or associated with the high voltage circuits on the D board. Try also unplugging the unit for an hour to allow the unit to reset and make the unit work. It sometimes resolves start-up issues with the unit.

Red stand by light blinks 8 or 9 times and no picture or sound

hello Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

Sony KP-51WS510 Shuts itself off

eight blinks means, "High-voltage error" and the probable cause location listed is, "T8005 is faulty (D board)". T8005 is the fly-back transformer assembly.

Set powers off seconds after power on

* Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some newer models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 is defective on the D board. That would be the fly back transformer and the horizontal output transistor.
