Nothing runs....but Adaptive Defrost Control clicks twice

I have a Kenmore made by Whirlpool side by side.  Model # 106.9547610.  It's 14 years old.  It's not running at all.  The lights are on.  When I plug it in I hear a click at the Adaptive Defrost Control(part# 2154958) on theRefrigerator side.  I loosened this piece to see inside and also hear exactly where it's clicking.  That is the only noise it makes when I plug it in.  Nothing near the compressor makes any noise.  Thank you.

My kenmore 10658026800 does not cool... where is the defrost timer?

I found the parts page but Kenmore does not have the parts listed. You refrigerator was made by Whirlpool and Sears changed the model number. Looking a the sears photos your model does not have a defrost timer but does have an Adaptive Defrost Control located inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel where you set temperatures. Defrost failures and compressors stopping as you said in your post are common for the ADC I will continue to try to cross it over to the Whirlpool Model but most likely that is the problem. When an ADC fails strange things begin to happen. Once you start to look for the ADC unplug and remove the top shelf to help lower the control panel. I will return soon to leave you more contact information and what the part looks like. OK your model came with three different styles of defrost controls located in same area. Timer and two different ADC boards. I will need you to look and read the numbers off of what you find. If a timer we can test, defrost boards usually have burn marks on front or back when damaged. Let me know what you find and we go to next step. Is ice building in freezer rear wall or is just lights on? Sea Breeze

My freezer defrosted and the refrigerator is not as cold as it was

That sounds like the compressor start capacitor, relay or overload. It could even be the defrost timer or part of the defrost Adaptive Defrost Control. I will need the Sear Kenmore model number. I will need you to communicate with me and look around the door of the fresh food section for a model number. Sears uses a different model number when they sell a Maytag, Whirlpool or any Brand nam. Their number after changing would look like this 231.65489 near floor behind door seal and near kick plate.I will help you if you let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

Amana Fridge that won't keep cooling.

Inside your refrigerator fresh food compartment and behind the control panel is a Adaptive Defrost Board this could be the problem or the start relay and start capacitor located on the compressor. I would unplug and examine the defrost board first to see if it looks abnormal. Second I would replace the parts mentioned at the compressor if the Adaptive Defrost Board looks ok. Below is a link that you enter your model number in the model parts search feature. The part number for the Adaptive Defrost is 611005988
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Side by side whirlpool refridgerator GD5SHA is no longer cooling

Your refrigerator has an Adaptive defrost board inside the fresh food compartment that is the number one reason I think your refrigerator is not cooling. Reading your post you mentioned this just suddenly began to happen. Can you hear the compressor running? Is your fans blowing inside the freezer and below the refrigerator? Can you feel warm air coming from back and under refrigerator or cold air blowing inside freezer? Click on link below and enter your model in search feature. You will see 36 similar choices, just make sure you choose one that has refrigerator beside the model number. When you get to the correct page choose photo 10 control parts click it and you will see the Adaptive defrost listed in photo as item 6. Let me know those other things I asked in this message so I will be able to help you better, Thanks Sea Breeze

Light on in fridge but no compressor sound or clicks or fan

That dude is probably stuck in the defrost mode.
OK try this:
1. Unplug refrigerator
2. Turn Cold Control to “off (Compressor is off)
3. Plug in refrigerator
The defrost cycle has now been initiated. The DTT has a bypass/test point for diagnosis. To terminate defrost manually:
1. Unplug the refrigerator
2. Turn the cold control “on” (Compressor is on)
3. Plug in the refrigerator
The defrost cycle is terminated and refrigeration cycle resumes.
Replace the dang adaptive defrost if you cannot get any response.

The freezer and refrigerator temp is becoming warmer.

The newest defrost feature in modern fridges is the electronic adaptive defrost control board. to put this adaptive defrost style of fridge into defrost, short with a small screwdriver between L1 and test on the adaptive defrost board, wait 3 seconds and you should hear a "click" noise from the relay and the fridge will shut off and go through a defrost cycle.

Which is better pulse defrost or adaptive defrost?

pulse and adaptive def actuall work in tandem with one another. what happens is the computer will put the refrig into a short def cycle and test how long it takes the termination switch to open this determines when it is time for the unit to go into a full term def the next time. adaptive defrost looks for the number of door openings and how long it takes for the def termination switch to open during a regular defrost. most units will go into def every -12 hours with adaptive if the conditions are right it can go as long as 2 or 3 days between def cycles. both systems are very relaible and trouble free. the pulse defrost is available on higer end electronic control refrig and is also adaptive defrost system as well. whirlpool also has adaptive defrost only available on their midline units as well as some higher end manual control units.\\
sorry for the defrost class peyton..
