Question about Mitsubishi WS-55805 55" Rear Projection Television

Mitsu HD1080 I'm getting dark areas on the left and right bottom half off the picture. The darkness abruptly ends where widescreen takes over from standard in a perfect vertical line on both side. It is very noticable when watching hockey in HD. Any thoughts? Thanks...

There is a possibility that the problem lies on the "Doubler" circuit board with this set, especially if the darkness looks like a smear in the picture during bright scenes like a hockey game.

hi melissa,
your problem is the focusing areas, im sorry that I do not know how to turn it off, the rectangle you see is the area is focusing on, and the darkness is what the camera doesnt focus on, try reading the manual, or turning it off yourself.

Hi there! If picture is smaller top to bottom with blank section on top and bottom then check your aspect ratio settings. If blank at the bottom only the Bottom Y-Drive board may be faulty. If blank at the top The Top Y-Drive may be faulty. If blank on the Left (TOP TO Bottom) then the Right X-Drive Board and on the Right, the Left X-Drive Board. 42" LCD tv shows picture on only half of the screen,other half dark!

The T-Con board (otherwise known as LVDS) connects to two seperste parts of the LCD panel. If you do have half a picture (left or right) replacing the T-Con board should resolve this issue. Open your TV, find the part number and search on eBay or at sites like www.flattvparts.co.uk where you can search by TV model number.

Those are the symptoms when the power supply is giving up.
Unfortunately there are not many replacement service parts around to swap the power supply assembly, but It will need to be fix to the component level instead.
I service these power supplies.

Dark area on screen

If it's a circular area you might be delaing with magnetism. Check the menu and there should be a control for geomagnetic correction and adjust accordingly.
