The trouble is that the scanner assembly can't find its "home" station. Here is the most common solution. There is a reflective white stipe under the scanner glass that the scanner looks for. If the stripe is dirty, or if the scanner mirrors are dirty, the scanner won't sense its location, and cause a "scanner error". A qualified technician should be able to clean the assembly. The other option is to replace the scanner assembly. I hope this helps.
