This can be a serious debate among campers. The best stove for you depends on what is available to you wherever you live: stove and fuel. Go to a local camping supply store (or several stores) and find out what is available and the pros and cons of each. There is no point in telling you what I think would be good because you might not have the same fuel preferences or availability, and you might not want the same features on the stove that I would suggest (such as simmer control) as being necessary.

I have an MSR Pocket Rocket Stove and I absolutely love it. I've had it for ten years and it has never faltered.

What should I look for when buying a camping stove?

When buying a camping stove, you should look for two things:
  • How well the stove performs- mainly the amount of time it takes to boil water. Good performance would be somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes.
  • How efficient the stove is- how long it will be able to cook for. Last thing you want is a camping stove that will stop cooking before your meal is ready.
