Sometimes the wash cycle will complete and water will still be in the tub, other times it will go through the cycle and drain as well, somtimes it will not go to the next cycle.
agititation works but the final spin and or drain is intermittent....any advice?
If there is a filter on this model, make sure it is clean, a lot of fluff and other stuff can accumulate in the filter preventing the water from draining fast enough. Sometimes the pump can get blocked with the same effect. Tom.

If your Kenmore washer series 400 model 22102 is dripping water in the tub after the cycle is complete, there could be a few potential causes. Here are some things to check:
Water valve: The dripping could be due to a faulty water inlet valve. This valve controls the flow of water into the machine and if it's not closing properly, water can continue to drip into the tub even when the cycle is complete. You may need to replace the water inlet valve to fix the issue.
Water level sensor: Another potential cause of dripping could be a malfunctioning water level sensor. This sensor tells the washer when the tub is full and it's time to stop filling with water. If the sensor is faulty, it may not be accurately detecting the water level, which could lead to dripping. You may need to replace the water level sensor to fix the issue.
Drain hose: If the washer is not properly draining, it could also lead to dripping after the cycle is complete. Check the drain hose for any kinks or clogs that could be preventing water from draining properly. You may need to clean out the drain hose or replace it if it's damaged.
Overloading: If you're overloading the washer with too much laundry, it could be causing water to overflow and drip into the tub after the cycle is complete. Make sure you're following the manufacturer's guidelines for load size to avoid overloading the machine.
If you're unsure of how to diagnose or fix the issue, it may be best to consult a professional technician or reach out to the manufacturer for assistance.
You have a bad pressure switch or the small hose connecting to the pressure switch may be bad
If the washer leaks water
when is filling only, check the following:
1.Fill
hoses
2.The water mixing valve 3.Filling injector ( If your washer uses one )
4.Filling spout
If the washing machine leaks during the wash cycle, check the
following: 1.The pump 2.The tub stem & seal
3.Tub to pump hose
4.The drain hose
5.Tub (rusted holes)
6.The drum support bolts
If the washing machine leaks during the spin cycle, check the
following: 1.The drain hose
2.The tub cover seal
3.The pump
4.The pump hoses 5.The stem & seal
6.The drum support bolts
From
the excellent description you give the most likely cause of this
problem is the check ball and funnel in the soil collector. It
drains fine sometimes but sometimes it doesn't drain but the motor is
turning. If the motor is turning in the drain cycle most likely the
motor and timer are okay. The motor on this dishwasher runs one
direction to wash and one direction to drain. You can listen for this
but there is another more likely part causing this problem.

The idea is that in the wash cycle the circulation
of the water brings food particles into the chamber. In the drain cycle
the circulation is reversed and the check ball is suppose to seal the
funnel off so all of the food and soils go down the drain. If the check
ball doesn't seal the funnel then the water will not drain but go back
into the tub.

Most likely your problem is with the check ball and/or funnel.
There may be something in the chamber preventing the check ball from
sealing the funnel all of the time. Sometimes it does but sometimes it
doesn't.

The images below will give you an idea of where the soil settler
is located. You can remove the toe panel but must likely you'll need to
pull the dishwasher out to access it.

This is a job I'd recommend a technician do. The funnel , check ball and the soil settler/separator .
You will also need some RTV sealant but even technicians have
difficulty with this repair and I suggest you let the technician get the
headache.

The check ball and funnel can definitely cause an intermittent drain problem.

I hope this information is helpful resolving this problem.

check that ALL of the water has been pumped out you could have a partally blocked drain pump causing the water level pressure switch not to be satisfied that the tub is completly drained. If tub is NOT completly drained it wont spin but it will usually give you an error code try drain spin to see if that works draining it a second time
You may want to remove the inner tub and check for a article of clothing, hanky, sock, wash cloth or small baby item lodged between the inner and outer tubs. It floats and sporatically blocks the drain hole when the unit is suppose to be draining. I agree with you that is it not an electrical issue. Check this and let me know what you find.....
be sure the drain hose is not lower than the wash tub this will caust the water to run out, 2nd be sure the drain hose is not pushed to far into the house stand pipe and the there is rome for air to go inbetween the drain hose and stand pipe eather of these will cause the machine to siphon mostly on rince cycle or on the 2nd and third loads you do. last your house drain could be starting to back up fill the washer with water and listen to it drain if you hear a gurggling sound in the house pipe you may need a plumber to cleanthis out for you.
It sounds as if you have something acting as a flap causing the restriction. You should take the hose that leads from the tub to the pump off and see if there is anything just inside the tub. I have noticed that alot times you could have a coin that blocks the opening. You may have to remove the inner tub to remove anything in there
