Question about Sony STR-DE597 Receiver

1 Answer

Sony STRDE597 Hello! I've got a rather simple question for you. I have a Sony STRDE597 receiver, and unfortunately the poor fellow had a drink spilled all over it :(. Now after much drying I've turned it back on and it appeas to work, but now when I turn it on the display reads "UNLOCK" for a few moments whenever switching the input mode. I scoured the manual for information to no avail. Any idea what this means?

From the Sony site "The word UNLOCK may appear in the display if there is a problem receiving a digital audio signal. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue. Ensure the correct input is selected to receive the Audio/Video (A/V) from the appropriate source. Ensure a digital cable is connected to appropriate DIGITAL jack. Ensure the other end of the digital cable is properly connected to the A/V source. Ensure the A/V source is set appropriately to output a digital signal. NOTE: The A/V source may have a DTS setting that needs to be turned on, or a DPCM setting that needs to be set to Dolby Digital."

Hello Fellow Espresso Maker
We at Expressfix recommend you descale every 6 month depending on water quality and usage. We tell our clients every 6 month to prevent scale build up and proper operational status for normal usage(2-3 drinks daily). Poor water quality leads many future preventable service calls.

Spilled soft drink. After clean up there was no sound

did you get all the liquid out from the inside of the deck? there may still be some still between the leads of the output ic. how long was it between the spilling of the pop and the clean-up. if it was a long enough period, the soft drink may have eaten through some of the legs on the output ic.

The sound on the 2 front speakers and the sub woofer on my Sony STR-DE597 turned off and I can't figure out to turn them back on. I've lost my manuel. When I use the test tone on the remote, only the rear...

First, you can find your manual here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDE597

You may have accidentally pressed the speaker select button and disabled speaker A (main) and enabled Speaker B or disabled both A and B. Start with page 40 in the manual to select Speaker A.

On the remote, press the "Speakers" button (Off/A/B/A+B) repeatedly until you hear some noise.

I had the same problem and tried new batteries with no success until I had a close look at the terminals. One of the +ve terminals was rusted (Ithink a drink spill, hastilly wiped off). After restoring this terminal everything is now OK. Hope this helps.

Sony STR-D611 receiver goes into protect mode when turned on.

I cleaned the contacts on the transistors and it's working great now. Previously, I spilled some drink on the unit and it went into protect mode and it was in the power amp section. It's all up and running again. Thanks for the info. --Steve B.
