The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.


Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

This error indicates that the processor is not able to communicate with your External Hard Disk.
I'm pretty sure you've already tried connecting the External Hard Disk to a different computer. If not, this is the best time to do it to isolate the issue. If you're having the same issue with other computers, then the problem lies with the External Hard Disk. There's a possibility that it's damaged, corrupted or infected by a virus. If it's still under warranty, get assistance with the manufacturer. If it's not, try checking the cable for any physical damaged, or better yet try a known good working cable.
Also, try restarting the computer when the External Hard Disk is connected to see if the computer can check its volume during the reboot. If the External Hard Disk failed to load after restarting, it is a possible virus issue. I would suggest running the most up-to-date antivirus software that you can find to scan your system and the external hard disk itself.

I am having similar problems with my HomeBase. I have 3 x 1Tb Seagate external USB2.0 NTFS drives (FreeAgent) connected. The aim is to have my digital TV, LG set-top box, Apple TV, PC and Laptop all access the files and capacity offered by the NAS option.

They work fine in 'single user network USB' mode, but are very flaky / non-existant in 'NAS, multi-user' mode. There are times when the HomeBase is restarted and recognises one or more of the drives in NAS mode, but mostly they are not recognised. On the back of the unit, you can see the LED next to the USB port leading to the drives initially stay lit, but then flashes for 10-15 seconds and then goes out.

As I want the hard disks available to multiple devices I need to use the NAS setting.
Did you try to set the drives into 'Network USB mode' rather than NAS mode. Does that help?

Did anyone have a solution to the problem? Unfortunately Belkin technical support have not been very useful yet...

Disc Read error indicated a failing hard drive. Replace the drive will be the fix, then reinstall Windows

It sounds like the drive is going bad. I would back up any data that is on it and look into the warranty status of the drive.

Unless you are willing to spend some big bucks on getting everything recovered and you have already tried all of the above steps everything on there is lost. I have gone through the same problem if you can't access it as a slave then you truly have lost all that was on there. If you buy a new hard drive consider a seagate. It is a little more cost wise but they have good life ratings and always try and back up files on dvd just in case.

If the drive is ticking, it suggests the actual HDD is dying. You can try the following to see if you can fix any disc errors through your PC, however if your PC does not recognise a drive has been attached you may be unable to do anything other than have it repaired elsewhere. If you have problems with the file system on your Gmini you can try to fix it using the DOS utility, check disk (chkdsk). Do the following; ? Make sure external AC adapter is powering the Gmini. ? Quit all running applications. ? Properly connect the Gmini to your computer ? Wait patiently (up to 5 minutes) for Windows XP to show the local drive as mounted. ? Open a DOS window. Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. ? At the prompt, type chkdsk e: /f. Use e: or f: or whatever drive letter is representing your Gmini. The /f argument tells the program to automatically fix errors. ? Be patient, this may take a while. ? When it is finished, exit the DOS Window and properly disconnect the Gmini from your computer. Try using the device now and see if makes any difference. This method should help to fix any disc errors that have occurred within the FAT and help your PC recognise it again. If you have more problems, try formatting it using a DOS prompt. You MUST make sure NOTHING is trying to access the disc before you can format it - this includes windows explorer.
