How do I update firmware to work with Windows 7 and CenturyLink

CenturyLink only uses the Actiontec GT701WG and does not support my Actiontec GT704WG. I want to keep my router and update the firmware to work with CenturyLink

SOURCE: actiontec GT701WG ROUTER

If you cannot connect to the router through 192.168.0.1, do a harware reset - I think there is a button in bach and use the factory default user/password. Then just disable the wireless in setup, advanced, wirless settigs - click Wireless Off radio button. And change the password.

SOURCE: neighbors logging onto my network wirelessly

I have the same router. Mine is from verizon, and i assume yours is also from verizion. Please follow these steps: 1.Type "192.168.1.1" in your browser window. 2.Username is "admin" and the password is "password" 3.Click on wireless setup. 4.Make sure that WEP is on and copy down all of your wireless settings at the bottom.
Thats it.

SOURCE: username and password

if this is fresh from the box, the factory default will be (username - admin) and the (password - admin). but if this already configured by the user before, all you have to do is restart it so that it will back into factory default.

simply press the "reset button" for 10 sec...
then try to login as a factory default then configure it again

SOURCE: the actiontec gt704wg works fine

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:

  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Change your SSID and encrypt with WEP or WPA security.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

You need to verify your connection type w/ Centurylink- they may run on DHCP which is a different connection protocol than PPPoE. If you have a static IP address, fair warning: the Verizon Actiontec is historically tetchy on static and NOT to be used as a primary modem/router- it will lose settings.

I have the actiontec gt704wg dsl modem that I got from Qwest. The last few months I often lose my internet connection. The only way I get it back is by turning the modem off for a few seconds and then...

It sounds like a firmware issue or problem. Have you tried updating the firmware of the router? If not, download the latest firmware from actiontec website and install it to your router. Note: After successfully updating the firmware, you need to hard reset the router. Press the reset button at the back of the router for 30 second then unplug the power for 30 seconds as well then plug it back n.

Router is constantly cutting off

Yes, update your firmware. I did this recently - same problem - solved once I updated the firmware on the router and later the modem.

I bought a GT704WG wireless modem from Verizon, but it doesn't appear to have any drivers installed. Where can I download them for no charge?

Try this link:

It has usb drivers, firmware update, and an ISO CD image of the device's manual.
