Sony KP-57WS510 57" Rear Projection HDTV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 09, 2008

I have a convergence problem. My Sony KP-65WS510 has a picture that looks like 3-D and bows at the bottom and top of the screen. I already replaced both the IC's STK 392-560 (2 qty.) and check all six 3.5a fuses (yellow resistors on the D-Board) and check the 2 fuses (yellow resistors, assuming it's the G-Board) standing vertical on left of D-Board. When I power the TV back on the picture, the convergence is still off. Any suggestions?

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

>>>Solution<<<<

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

        Screen looks 3D
          Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
              Screen is bowed or warped.

    Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

    Solution #2

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

On my Sony KP-65WS510 The colors are misaligned in the picture and the picture is bowed. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi,
This problem appears due to convergence output ICs failure located on D board in tv. There are two big black ICs that need to be replaced, soldering work is required.
Let me know are you handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in circuit board to provide you more technical info OR local tv repairman will do this job for you.
Thanks.

I have a sony kp-41t65 tv acting like computer screen out of whac

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Picture Distortion

you have a convergence problem.. If you understand how this works then you can go into the set find the convergence ic's and replace them and sometimes you need to do some alighnment as well. Its always best though to let a service tech do a job like this as he will have all the proper equipment to adjust and troubleshoot the set Good luck
