Rca scenium 52" has light bar area down each side

I take it that you have watched many hours of 4x3 video on this 16x9 TV . What you see is evidence of screen burn, like they used to warn about with the old "pong" type games with stationary objects. The 4x3 pattern is burned into the phosphor in the projection tubes. the area of the burned pattern is not as efficient as the unused areas that make up the 16x9. If you watch enough 16x9 it may even out somewhat, but will never be perfect. Replacing the tubes will fix it, but they're pricey, and you may be subject to it happening again, depending on your viewing habits.

Dark picture on RCA Scenium 61 in DLP

Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv.
If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.

Blue on the left and right sides of my rca scenium, 65 inch hi def rear projection tv

Well what may have happened is a bad thing, See if you can find some way of displaying a totaly white pix, and have this full size filling the entire screen. If the side bars are still there this means the CRT's are burned and this is a perminate thing, The fix would be to change the CRT's mabe just the green and the red but they still run about $285.00 each. This was cause by having the set run in a format that DOES NOT fill the entire screen

Picture size

I called RCA about this and first was told that it was my cable company till I told the rep that it does this even when I unhook the cable. I was then told that I could take it in to get it fixed and that even it it was a bad part on their end that I could end up paying for it as if might be the pictue tube or the screen. Guess this will be the last RCA that I ever buy again.
