Page(s) unresponsive This computer is a couple of weeks old and runs very slowly. I took Norton off because I had Kaspersky, and Norton Confidential was frequently crashing. When I try to compose a Yahoo email, I often get a few seconds of the Page(s) unresponsive box. But even Microsoft Word runs more slowly than it did on my Asus. Did I make a mistake by not buying another Asus?

Desktop pc running very slowly, esp internet

First things first: You say that you only have 1 megabyte of ram. I think that you meant to say gigabyte. But if you do only have one mb, then you definitely need to get more ram. Secondly, press control+alt+delete and click the processes tab. Please say the number of processes running and the CPU Usage (they're counted and documented at the bottom left of the task manager window) in your reply. What anti-spyware checks did you run and have you checked your computer with an online scanner like kaspersky? Do you have any anti-virus (McAfee, Norton, AVG) software running? Close any unnecessary processes in the bottom right of your desktop screen on the toolbar (these icons are displayed next to your clock).

Computer suddenly went sluggish on internet; monitor went blank; even off line solitaire game jammed things up. I ran Norton check and it said no viruses or problems. Any ideas?

You may try Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.AS it can detect malware, spyware more than Norton.Download Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.here si the link for download page

If this doesn't solve your problem, clean your pc with an Air blower and remove your processor and re apply Heat Sink Paste.sometimes, over heating may caused the system to hang or even reboot.

Norton 360 says scann is running when it is not. cann not connect to support. "program not respondig" message

I've this happen to me in the past. In my case, a virus had infected my computer and corrupted Norton to make it appear like it was running when it wasn't. Make sure the problem isn't a virus first, and then try to reinstall Norton if there is no virus. I would try a virus scan at safety.live.com or download AVG free from downloads.com

I am trying to install Kaspersky and I can't because it is asking to remove the program named AVG8. I tried to with the advice posted on your website but it still is not working.

The first thing you should be aware of is that running two (or more) anti-viruses is often a receipe for disaster. Never install Kaspersky without uninstalling previous installations of anti-virus software, it's not recommended by Kaspersky:http://www.kaspersky.com/faq?chapter=17070...p;qid=169326413.

General removal instructions:

1.Uninstall the anti-virus(es) you have installed via add/remove programsin the controlpanel, then reboot after the uninstall is finished.

2.Next you delete the folder most likely left behind after the uninstall, use explorer to open "Program files" and delete the folder of yourprevious AV, if you get a "In use by other persons or programs" thentry to use a program called Unlocker(free), simply rightclick on the folder and choose "Unlocker" for youroptions to appear. Very useful tool for difficult files/folders btw.You can also use "Search" in Windows to hunt down & delete anyfiles/folders still there after an uninstall. Another thing you coulddo at this stage, is to run a tracks-eraser to remove files not usedand just using HD space, two free tools are: CCleaner (both builds with the Yahoo toolbar and versions without this)

3.Now would be a good time to use a registry cleaner, there are manydifferent vendors, but the one which i find most thorough and safe is RegSupremerun it (use normalmode only, not aggressive), when finished scanningyou rightclick and select "All", then you click "Fix" at the bottom, itwill ask you if you wish to make a backup and you do, just to be safe.

Mostvendors make removal-tools for use after removal via add/removeprograms to remove registry entries/folders, you can contact thesupport of the AV in question for a copy.

Removing Norton (even when it is already uninstalled via add/remove programs)

Nortonremnants is often a source of problems when installing Kaspersky, theseproblems can vary from small and perhaps unnoticed by the user tryingKaspersky for the first time and therefore thinking that it is normalfor Kaspersky to be a little heavy because this is what he/she reads onsome forums, to very severe slowdowns prompting the user to perhapseither contact support or post here at the forum.

Well, the goodnews is that Norton make some very good removal-tools and if you followthe suggestions below, even if they may seem overkill to you, then abetter experience with Kaspersky can almost be guaranteed and withbetter overall system performance to follow in most cases too!

The"bad" news is that you have to uinstall not only Norton AV, alsoSystemWorks, firewall and antispam if you use any of these (these canbe installed again when everything is done, just not Norton AV ofcourse!), however your patience and hardwork will be rewarded with amuch better systemperformance.

If you had 2003-2007 installed you will need the Norton removaltool. You download the tool from here.

You are also encouraged to use a general registry cleaner like RegSupreme, this will find and remove a lot of things so don't be alarmed if thenumber of problems found after the scan is several hundreds, thisnormal, most of them is harmless, but there will also be some which isfrom old installations uninstalled long ago, just let it fixeverything, it will ask if you want to backup and you want this, justin case. Download a fresh copy of Microsoft Windows Script for XP .......or Microsoft Windows Script for W2000 (Vista users should skip this step), Norton sometimes messes with this during an uninstall, so you may as well update this too.

1. Now you uninstall Norton via add/remove programs in the controlpanel, then reboot after the uninstall is finished.

Very useful tool for difficult files/folders btw.You may find folders from programs you have deleted long ago, you mightas well delete them while you are in there anyway. You can also use"Search" in Windows to hunt down & delete any files/folders stillthere after an uninstall

3. Now you run the Norton removal-tool.

4.Run RegSupreme (use normalmode only, not aggressive) and fix what itfinds. (rightclick after scan is finished and select "All", then click"Fix" at the bottom or rightclick again & select "Fix")

5. Reinstall Microsoft Windows Script and reboot. You're now finished and can install Kaspersky. (Vista users should skip this step)

Please completley remove the norton security from my computer...trying to run something comcst says you need to do something to rmove it...please do asap ...thank you

Go into Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. Wait for the list of all programs to load up.

Go down through the list and look for Norton Internet Security. Remove it. It will take a very long time, sometimes 1/2 hour or more depending on speed of computer. Reboot the computer after it has been removed, especially if/when it asks you to reboot after the process.

After rebooting, go back into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Look for Symantec or Norton's Live Update, remove that as well. Also remove any other Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus or Internet Security programs as well. Then reboot the computer again.

Your computer should be much, much faster now. So now you need a new Anti-Virus program...

I've found in my experience that Norton and McAfee do more damage to some computers than good, besides the fact that they are severely over-priced. I would NEVER install either Norton (Symantec) or McAfee on anyone's computer. Matter of fact, I just had to remove Norton 2008 from a lady's computer today, an old Dell 2400 because her system was too old and slow to run new Norton.

My suggestions for much better anti-virus would be...

- Kaspersky Anti-Virus (search for it on Google, etc)

- Trend Micro PC-Cillin Anti-Virus (search for it on Google, etc)

- AVG Free Anti-Virus at http://free.grisoft.com, they also have more elaborate versions with more protection for a cost.

I personally use AVG on my computers, and my family does as well. It's very effective and gets out viruses that even Norton cannot remove.
