Check that the copper contacts are in position for each of the ink cartridges - on 510 have been known to fall out!

Verify that you are using Canon(TM) cartridges. The technology has progressed to where they have modified the ink to be identified by their printers. You cannot currently use refill cartridge inks to refill Canon cartridges. If that is not your issue, then try removing and replacing the cartridge(s)and reset the ink level indicator.

False ink empty

Are you sure its exclamation mark?..
This warning message related to print head. (warn out). When you are replacing ink tube assembly use dummy print heads to do the priming (new ink tubes are empty & they have to fill with ink)..
Action: Remove all cartridges and print heads, switch on the printer follow the screen message.(Insert cartridges first next dummy print heads).once its recognizes cartridges then it switch over to print heads, insert dummy print heads. Once printer recognized the dummy print heads, printer will perform priming, during priming dummy print heads will filled with respective inks.(follow the display message)Remove dummy print heads & insert normal print heads. Wait till printer recognizes print heads, load the paper & wait till performs the calibration, once calibration is successfully done issue closed.
If calibration not successfully done, check align print out for which print head is not printed properly, replace it..
Pl ensure that minimum 50% ink levels required in cartridges before performing the priming. Best of luck..

I replaced 2 cartidges. When I replaced the magenta the printer kept doing fine. When I replaced the black 20 minutes after the magenta it doesnt recognize the cartidge and I put another black cartidge...

Make sure there is nothing between the print cartridge and the place where it goes. Make all the plastic is removed from the cartridge. If you have a can of air, blow out the cartridge area.

I just installed a new color cartridge in my 8650 Lexmark printer. The ink cartridge acts as if it is empty. Printer keeps telling me to align cargridge. Worked perfectly before the new ink installed. Not...

  1. On your computer, go to "Start," "Programs," "Lexmark Series." Click "Lexmark Control Program."
  2. Step 2 Select the "Cartridges" tab. Click "Change Cartridges." The Change Cartridges screen appears, displaying the animated instructions for installing or changing cartridges. When you have finished viewing the animation, click the "Finished" button.
  3. Step 3 Remove the tape covering the print head of the new print cartridge. Insert the new print cartridge as shown in the animation.
  4. Step 4 When the "Choose Cartridges" screen appears, select the cartridge(s) you installed in your printer from the list boxes. Click the appropriate box to reset the ink levels to full. Click "OK."
  5. Step 5 The Automatic Alignment screen appears. Click "Align" to align the print cartridges for best print quality. The printer prints a page with a bi-directional alignment pattern. On the printed test page, locate the number that comes closest to forming a straight line under the bi-directional alignment pattern. Enter that number as the bi-directional alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge dialog box. Click "OK."

HP 3650 gives incorrect error message

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Pixma 4200 compatible ink cartridge problem help

The ink detection is a critical function of the printer.

Ink actually acts as a lubricant for the heads, and running (Printing) without ink is equavalent to driving a car without oil.

I.E. It will seize eventually....

Hopefully you didn't print much without the ink, and your heads are still in good shape...

Here is a chip reset procedure....

With the original chip now attached to the compatible cartridge (you may need double sided tape to get the chip to stick well to the cartridge), and with the cartridge now in the printer, Press and hold the Reset/OK Button for 5 seconds to reset the chips.
  1. The "Ink Low" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 1 below)
  2. Continue to print until the "ink has run out" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 2 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print.
  3. The "Ink Low" dialog box may reappear, if so repeat the first 2 steps
  4. Then the "once empty" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 3 Below) Click "Yes" to continue to print
  5. The "Not Liable" dialog box will pop up (similar to photo 4 below). Click "Yes" to continue to print
  6. Continue to print until the "remaining level of ink" dialog box pops up (similar to photo 5 Below) Click "OK" to continue to print
  7. Another dialog box will pop up with the "press and hold the Resume" or "press and hold the Paper Feed" button (similar to photo 6). Press and hold the "STOP/RESET" button (for Canon MP Series) or "PAPER FEED" button (for Canon IP Series) for 5 seconds. DO NOT Click "Back" or "Cancel Printing"
  8. The "Ink Monitor" dialog box will appear and the printer will continue to print. (similar to photo 7) In the event that that the "press and hold the Resume " dialog box pops up again, Press and hold the Paper Feed Button or Stop/Reset Button for 5 seconds

Waste ink full

This step is a "reset" step for the Canon CLI8 cartridges. The original Canon CLI8 cartridges have a memory chip on the back of the cartridge, which sends a signal to the printer when the cartridge is empty. Your printer won't be able to determine how much ink is in the compatible cartridges, but you can easily monitor the ink level by noticing the ink level drop in the cartridge as you print (the cartridges are see-through), or by noticing low ink output on the printed pages when you run out of ink. The "reset" procedure below is the best procedure we know of to date to allow your printer to use Uni-Kit cartridges which offer a tremendous savings over the Original Canon products.
