Question about Philips DVDR520H DVD Player/HDD

1 Answer

System seems to have crashed

MY philips DVDR520H seems to function ok, except one day when i turned it on and opened the browser window to playback something i had recorded, the pictures that indicate what has been recorded were all grey and after waiting a while to see whether they loaded they remained grey. when i try to play one of them, it freezes and i end up having to switch the whole thing off to get it started again. strange thing is that after this if i tape something its picture is displayed in the browser and i can play it no problem, but the ones taped before whatever happened remain grey and unwatchable. It seems if i deleted all the affected one my dvd player would continue functioning correctly, however i dont what to lose anything that i have on the harddrive. Is there anyway i can restore them?

It said that my mozilla firefox has crashed, how will i be able to fix it as soon as possible

A browser "crash" is not a permanent problem. It simply means the browser has encountered a problem during that browsing session, and cannot continue running. The browser will then usually close. (If not, you should terminate the browser program - Use the Windows Task Manager, or restart the computer if necessary.) When you restart the browser, it should then function normally again.

There are many factors that can lead to a browser crash. Those can include glitches in the browser's code, or problems with the operating system, or problems with a particular site that has been visited. Most current browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome) are quite stable, but nearly every browser will experience a crash from time to time. It's a small annoyance, but not a cause for serious concern.

To minimize the likelihood of a browser crash (and other system malfunction), you should make sure that:
(1) your browser is up-to-date, and
(2) your operating system has all patches and updates installed.
The current version of Firefox is 3.6.15. It's also good idea to run a full anti-virus scan of your computer periodically, and to do other forms of regular maintenance (disk defragmentation, eliminate temporary & junk files, scan for registry errors).

Hi I am trying to copy a video to dvd on this recorder What dvd disc do i use as after recording says this disc cannot play- would appreciate the exact direction how to do this Tks

The DVD-burner inside the DVDR520H is a very cheap LiteOn-burner (model: DDW451S). It would be better to replace the burner, but it would be difficult to find a product which will fit in the limited space. I'm having troubles with burning DVD's since I had bought this peace of ****. The machine have been repaired three times, but it is still not functioning properly. Shame on Philips for assembling such a weak product and their very bad support!

I have a philips DVD home theatre system HTS8100. Its fine except that NO dvds play in synch. I have checked them on my normal DVD player & they are fine. The synch button on the remote sometimes fixes...

Synch problems on Philips machines can be caused by the video output setting.

Usually there are 3 options for video output:
  • PAL
  • NTSC
  • AUTO
PAL & NTSC force playback in that setting, regardless of DVD format, and sometimes cause a time delay in the conversion.

Try changing this option to AUTO. IF you have a modern TV, it should allow both PAL & NTSC playback.
