The problem could be that the lens is waring out... not problem though, this can be fixed quite easily (if it salvageable, that is, and that it hasn't degraded too much..) There is something called a POT of the lens, which is basically the power and spread the laser uses to read discs.. over time, its figure reduces, and if it reaches too low, or beyond a certain point, it could render the lens and machine useless.. if you want to try, you can open up the machine to tweak the POT level.. which is in no way harmful if you adjust it within reasonable limits... I've also noticed that stuff loads faster since I adjusted mine..
