I THINK YOUR USB CABLE PLUGS INTO THE BACK OF THE PRINTER NEAR THE bottom.some printers do not come with a usb cable.so you may be unaware that usb cables have large and small ends.you should be able to recognize socket on printer if not you may have the wrong cable.RICHARDM69

Printer says it is not connected

This printer has an USB2 connector and you need to connect it to the USB port on your computer. The USB connect on the printer is smaller that the USB port on your computer.
I sounds like you have connect the printer correctly because you have been printing.

You can download the Canon printer drivers from their support WEB site. Please click on this link and select your model printer to download : - http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct

My hp c6400 is connected to my pc via a usb cable but when i try to print their is always a message that says, "your printer is offline". what should i do?

1. Double check the power and usb connections in the back of the printer. 2. If securely plugged in, unplug the usb connection, wait a few seconds and plug it back it. 3. If printer is still off line, right click on the printer and delete it. 4. Unplug the USB again, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. 5. The printer should reinstall and reappear in your printer list.

Where do i inset the cable from pc

That depends on the make and model of the printer, every printer is different. However, generally speaking if it's a USB printer (as almost every modern home printer is these days) The USB port is normally found at the back of the printer.
However, the usb cable from pc to printer isn't the same at both ends (as you might expect). It's a USB (A) that plugs into the computer and a USB(B) cable that goes into the printer: netean.jpg

Look on Google images for USB B for more examples. In the above image (courtesy of Lindy.co.uk) the plug on the right goes into the printer.

I have not printer software

IF IT'S A USB PLUG ON THE PRINTER THE PC SHOULD RECOGNISE THIS PRINTER(PLUG AND PLAY)WHEN YOU PLUG IN TO THE USB ON THE PC.I HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT A USB PLUG LOOKS LIKE,OTHERWISE IT'S GOING TO BE DIFFICULT EXPLAINING.IF THIS FAILS YOU NEED THE SOFTWARE DISC THAT COMES WITH THE PRINTER.YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE PDF FILE FROM THE PRINTER MANUFACTORERS WEBSITE.RUN THIS DISC IN YOUR PC AND IT WILL THEN RECOGNISE YOUR PRINTER.JOB DONE..REMEMBER SOME OPERATING SYSTEMS WON'T RECOGNISE THE PRINTER..

I can't get the down load for the Lexmark x1240 to work. I have down loaded it but when I try to get the computer to recognize the printer, it doesn't or it doesn't let it connect

Did the drivers install completely?

If so, try plugging the printer USB cable in a different USB socket, one that you did not plug the printer into before. If you don't have a "fresh" free USB socket, you can always swap plugs with the mouse for example.
Te computer should discover your printer and use the already installed driver.

If the driver did not install at all, try installing it again with the printer unplugged from USB, and plug it in to a "fresh" USB socket (as described above) only when asked to by the installer software.

I can't install my 4200 printer/fax. i get to the part where it says plug in usb cable, and it doesn't go beyond that. the cable is plugged in

Just for fun, try this: abort the installation process. Then plug in the printer in any USB port. Does the computer see the device? It should and then ask for a driver. If the system doesn't see the printer, then make sure the USB port is all right. Plug in some other USB device, such as a mouse, into the port. Does the computer see it? If not, then the trouble is in the PC. If it does, then your printer or the USB cable is bad. You can also take the printer to another computer and plug it in to make sure that it's all right.
