Thanks for that. I looked at the link and there is some basic instruction for the lens there.
That manual is already in the box but sealed so I hadn't been able to read it. I asked Canon if the lens was included in that manual but they wouldn't tell me, just told me to buy a photo copy manual from a contact they gave.

I offer you to buy Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. This gives very good performance for your studio work and specially for portre. It has Image Stabilization and Ultrasonic Motor. Other professional lens are very expensive. It has red ring.

Canon have never issues the user manuals for the lenses in pdf format. The only way you will get one is if somebody has scanned your particular models manual. I have just got immaculate manuals for some of my lenses from Ebay. There is one on ebay now. Type this auction number into the search box. 270237270981
Get the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM about $500 and EFS 17-85mm IS USM about $300. The 75-300 all of them I would not use them 4 a body cap. Camera is fine or step up to XSI.
A fat rubber band tight enough to stop the barrel movement, but not so tight it restricts manual zooming is the best, extremely effective, low-tech fix for this problem - I have done it for years
