I'm having a problem with tiscali and a 2wire HomePortal 1000. I get "Can't connect to configuration server" on setup but the other bits pass and most ordinary websites on port 80 work fine but anything like logging in to a https site or doing ajax stuff fails. I notice the automatically retrieved dns servers are 212.139.132.7 and 212.139.132.6 and if I change them to 212.74.112.66 / 7 I lose the connection altogether. The manual setting of dns servers asks for a domain name which I don't know. I've tried setting it to tiscali.co.uk and leaving it blank.
Thank god for that. i have been trying for a week now, trawling the net for solutions to this problem on tiscali, now changing the MUT to 1492 has sorted it. wooooo hoooooo

I know tiscali started having problems the end of 2006, if you try access www.pogo.com for example and try loading the games they only work at certain times of the day. during there peak hours they have been blocking ports. John

Only partial internet i assume refers to the fact that you can get on line but on certain peer to peer sites it won't be allowed. This is because you need to open the relevant port in the virtual server option or similair. Changing the dns back to the original is advised, and selecting obtain ip address automatically. also if this is not the case regarding open ports check that your browser settings are'nt too low.

Make sure that you are using the power adapter that came with your HomePortal.

The easiest way to access the
HomePortal is to use another computer connected to your home network. If
the DMZPlus computer is the only available computer, you can manually
configure the TCP/IP settings on that computer. Modifying the following
settings allows you to access the HomePortal user interface.
IP address 172.16.1.2 (valid IPs are 172.16.1.2 - 172.16.1.32)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway Address: 172.16.0.1
DNS Server Address: 172.16.0.1

Re-run the Setup Wizard using one of the following methods if you are unable to browse the Internet:
Re-run the HomePortal Setup Wizard from the HomePortal CD.
Re-run the HomePortal Setup Wizard by going to http://homeportal/setup (http://172.16.0.1/setup) in your Web browser.
(For Windows only.) Re-run the HomePortal Setup Wizard by clicking Start > Programs > 2Wire Gateway > Run 2Wire Setup Wizard.

I think it's something more specific I've got wrong. For example, yahoo mail. I could login the other day but not delete or retreive mail (even using the old non-ajax version). I had to go through wap.yahoo.co.uk to read anything and that obviously only shows me plain text.
Today I can't even log in. I've renamed my HOSTS file in case that was causing it. Other forum sites I can now login where I couldn't before I changed the DNS settings but still can't post. Yet I'm posting this fine.
I can't see what's different about those requests???
The solution in the end was to change the MTU setting on the router to less than 1500. Not sure why it worked though?
Same here. Keep losing the ability to log onto https like hotmail or my bank. It also wont connect to config server.
