Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

Problem with inspiron 6400 does not ignite sometimes

For weeks I have been having problems when igniting the equipment, is listened to a rare noise and it does not ignite, after last time on several attempts finally ignites, but to the passage of hours the equipment remains inhibited or reset, already it reviews the hard disk with the tool of diagnostics of dell and all this working well. The day of today that it executes again the diagnostic tool of dell, the laptop its again remain inhibited in this process, perhaps that the card mother no longer works. Thanks for your help.

Yes tomj23 (thanks for your help :) ), when i starting the notebook sometimes show this problem, for example now, after 2 hours the notebook restart alone, inmediatly i try start again the notebook, the the three leds of keyboard status lights ( caps lock, numlock, scroll lock) are on and is this momment when the sound it appears, this sound is similar or equal mmm when you try to ignite a car and these don't ignite, the sound of the motor of car like asphyxiating, this it is the sound of which I speak to them( I hope that they understand this :)) and the notebook dont start, the lights of leds are off and don't sound any beep of error.

other times during the time that this on the notebook suddenly stays out the equipment without apparent reason.

I'm contacts to the support of dell and realize the actions and diagnosticos that they recommended to me, in the beginning i think the hard disk failed, but i realize scandisk for the hard disk and dont't show problems, reinstall Windows and continues failing notebook.

I hope can help me :) thanks !!

Samj04011, Not sure I understand entirely what problem you are experiencing. I?m assuming you are using ?igniting? to refer to starting the laptop but it?s making some odd noises and takes lots of time to start. Can you give us some additional information such as: -describe the noise in greater detail; is it beeping and if so are they long, short and how many. These may be beep codes which are a series of long or short beeps, the number and order point to specific errors. -What is displayed on the monitor? -What LEDs light up whey you try to start? Once you?ve given us some more information we can start to figure out what is going on.

The noise you are describing does not sound like beep codes, in fact the only sound I can think of that would make a noise like a car starting would be a hard drive, a CD drive or perhaps a defective fan. You say you were able to run the Dell diagnostic disk from the CD drive so its probably not that. The fan probably wouldn?t prevent the laptop from starting but a defective hard drive would.

When this noise occurs do you see anything on the monitor at all?
Will the laptop start and load Windows at all?

Where is the michrophone on del inspiron 6400?

Unfortunately the Dell Inspiron 6400 is not equipped with a built in microphone.

You can use an external microphone having a 3.5mm jack by connecting it to the microphone connector found on the right side of the laptop.

Hope to have helped you.

Hi, since having a new BT home hub, my inspiron 6400 will not connect wirelessly unless I do a 'repair' with it. Sometimes it detects broadband but wont connect wirelessly. My son changed the channel...

Most people have to just work out the configuration by them selves BT do offer a lot of support (0800 022 33 22) Their equipement is pretty good and widely used.
By the way the most least used channels are 1,6,and 11 there might be a default but these are the most complete channels which do not overlap(RE;
cnannel 1]--2.412 Centre frequency(ghz)
channel 6]--2,437
channel 11]-2.462

I was using my Dell Inspiron 6400, Problem with sound

Go to the device manager and see if the sound card is working there if not go to dell drivers and down losd new drivers

Here are my recommendations for this issue:

1. Reseat the battery.
2. Remove All External Components
3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris.
4. Remove All External Components
5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.

Wireless stops working after a while

Try to contact dell for a warrenty replacement. I had the same problem, they had fixed my computer in under a week.
