Why does the transformer get hot and burn up?

The only thing that would cause this is something in the circuit is pulling too much electricity through that transformer. So what is the transformer hooked to? Please post the make and model

I have Danby microwave, the food does not heat and there is smells like some thing is burnt. I have opened it and the high voltage transformer does not look burnt.

What is happening is that the magnetron is shorted, causing the high voltage transformer to overheat. That is what you are smelling is the insulation getting hot. When the magnetron shorts out, it makes a loud buzzing sound. Replacement magnetrons costs almost as much as a new oven so it rarely makes sense to fix.

When the microwave is plugged in but not running there is a buzzing/humming noise. The unit works fine and the buzzing/humming continues when in operation as well.

That noise you hear is loose laminations in the standby/controll transformer. It is no more than a nuisance.
The transformer can be replaced by contacting the manufacturer and browsing for a dealer near you.
Hope that helps.

Generac generator on auto runs weekly. light green previuosly green. now red. what causes this??

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly. Your red LED is telling you that it was 1. overloaded. 2. has low voltage 3. overheated or 4. short in the powered circuit.

OVERLOAD LED (red): Lights up if the generator experiences
a load greater than the rated output, low voltage, overheats or
the powered circuit experiences a short. The output is stopped
even though the engine keeps running.

I do not know which of the 4 conditions caused your red light. If you have the read light with no load I would suspect low voltage from the generator / inverter. If it overheated you will also get the Red LED with no load.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My totaline digital 2 stage thermostat keeps buzzing. I have to turn the whole a/c unit off to get it to stop. Lately it hasnt helped much as when I turn it back on it is still buzzing. Help

Hi, relays will also buzz causing units to loose transformers, I have seen this in the past years also. A 2-stage heat-pump stat? I would remove the front to expose the wiring terminals and pull the hot wire red, 24 volts and that should kill the buzz. If so, the circuitry is going out and you will need a new thermostat. I would, if you have a volt meter check the incoming voltage to the stat to make sure it doesn't exceed the proper voltage rated on the cover. Max would be 30 volts ac. If its over that, the transformer is putting out to much on the secondary side and should be replaced, or it will eventually take all of the low voltage controls out. Try removing the 24 volt hot wire and also if you have a friend that has a meter or you do, check the voltage coming in to the stat. Get back to me if it exceeds the rating, as this will cause the buzzing. It may just be faulty contacts in this stat also. I wish you the best, and ask that you are kind when rating me in helping you. Please keep me posted if you need my help.
Sincerely,

Our Yamaha clavinova CLP-115 is buzzing, even with

Without power to the unit no sound should be generated. Make sure there are no other connections.

MAYBE you have a wall transformer behind it that is buzzing. MANY wall transformers develop buzz.

Another source is flourescent lights and even some of the low voltage halogens have noisy transformers in the base.

When controlling a 300 watt cable lighting system

Sounds like a loose connection. If they all fo out, it's at the beginning of the circuit. Check all connections at the start of circuit.

TV Just Started Making a Humming/Buzzing sound

Replacing a flyback is not something I would suggest for anyone with no electronics experience. Second, lets see where the noise is coming from first. Take off the back and listen to the noise. The flyback will be at one end of the large red wires that go to the tubes. Sometimes the connection at the tube is not 100% and the noise comes from there. BE CAREFUL - there are high voltages going through this red wire that can be dangerous even with the set UNPLUGGED!! IF the noise is coming from the connection at the tube, with the set unplugged, carefully turn the rubber cap back and forth touching only the rubber part with one hand. Put the other hand in you pocket while doing this.

If the noise comes from the flyback side, if you can solder, again with the set unplugged, try resoldering the pins on the transformers. That may resolve the problem.

Keep me posted.
