For quite some time now the volume doesnt work on my remote. At first the volume up stopped completely and volume down worked intermittently but now neither work. Is this a receiver problem or remote problem? I also have a Kenwood receiver which remote did not work but turned out to be problem with receiver. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. The wrong code on the remote has been used. Though some codes will work parts of the system only the right code will operate all.
If you don't know the code for the TV, then you will have to try ALL the codes until you find one that operates all the controls.
There are 2 reasons that this is happening in respect to the problem commencing after your daughter has cleaned the tv. Either your daughter has sprayed the volume button with cleaner and fluid has got into the the graphite pad under the button and conducting as though the button is being pressed continuously..or she has put too much pressure on the button if it is a metallic plate contact switch. One way to find out is by pressing the down volume button.does it it click ? if it does.try the up volume..If that doesnt click the problem is the metallic plate is dented in making contact hence a new switch. Another cause ive seen is cleaning the remote control with cleaner and fluid has got into the remote and it sends signals to the tv all the time..If the remote control is hidden under a cushion and the problem stops, then the remote control is at fault and needs drying out..Hope this helps :)
1. MAKE SURE POWER CORD IS PLUGGED IN.
2. WHILE PRESSING THE VOLUME BUTTON ON THE PROJECTION DISPLAY,HOLD DOWN PIP0R SPLIT BUTTON ON THE REMOTE CONTROL AT THE SAME TIME FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS.
3. WHEN THE RESET IS COMPLETE, THE SCREEN ON THE RIGHT WILL APPEAR AND IT SHOULD SAY "LAMP TIME RESET TO "0"
Go to START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, ENTERTAINMENT, Volume control. With the volume control open, see if the volume is muted (Checkbox marked mute at bottom of Master volume) If it is checked, uncheck it, and you should have sound.
I think your remote may be at fault. Liquid spill or sweat from the hand accumelates on the inside over some time and then becomes sticky. Some of the buttons may be permanently activated. Then other functions won't work. Have someone check it for you or if familiar yourself. Regards, JUS004
