Sound comming from laptop

Hi All I have a HP Pavillion laptop. There is a buzzing/whistling sound comming from inside. -when the power is plugged in there is a different sound than when it is running on a battery.(buzzing) -when in IE and the screen is not moving there is a whistle sound and as soon as the screen is scrolled up or down the sounds stop until the screen stops moving and it starts again. Any ideas what I can do?

Hi, I have to HP Pavilion zd8000 as well, and have exactly the same problem when using a jack to phono lead to my amplifier. I can't seem to figure it out, the only think I can think of is that it only makes this static interference noise when it's plug into the mains, so could it be the actual mains power supply that is faulty. May be the ferrite filters are damaged, or? not working as much as they should be? I'm going to try and get and new power supply and try it then, I'll keep you posted! Tim

Sounds like a power supply fan problem - these can be easily and fairly cheaply replaced - it does not need much experience or skill to do this, but in order to purchase a new one you probably have to go to a repair shop anyway, so for a few bucks you can probably get them to replace it anyway. If you want to check it yourself, establish first of all if you can open the case, then listen to each fan individually (being careful not to touch anything at all inside) hopefully identifying which fan is the noisy one. If you feel competent to remove and replace this yourself then ensure the power is off and that you have adequately grounded yourself before touching anything inside, remove the offending fan and find a pc supplier who can get you a replacement. If you just want a quick fix - usually only lasts about a week - then some PTFE (teflon) spray can sometimes help noisy fans, but truly when they are on their way out they need replacing.

Sorry last solution no help, here is the link for the service, maintenance and troubleshooting manual for the zd8000

Couldn't find anything myself with the info you have given, but maybe you could spot something - please let me know if you need a hand with this - unfortunately have not been able to find the same model locally to have a look at it myself.

only thought i've had is could it be faulty modem or modem driver/setup? possibly could funnel the sound out through the chassis to the ram area or gets resonance (unlikely). Sorry best I have at the moment. :)

My laptop speaker won't stop buzzing. It began

A buzzing/humm sound could be a earth loop problem. This is caused by connecting amp equipment into different mains power outlets.
Use a power board and connect all your amps and laptop to the one power board.
