We have a Sony model kp-51ws500 it is a 2002 model. We have had no problems before but turned the set on this morning and the picture was light green that turned into a light blue and the power shuts off.
You have all three projection tubes that are failing. This was a common issue for this year. Depending on serial number 2 of the 3 CRT's (green and blue) are no longer available. They will have to be pulled and rebuilt.
If all you CRTs are failing, I would definitely recommend replacing the old TV with a new LCD or LED TV. you can buy them in that 51"+ size economically today. That money would be better spent on a new TV rather than a 13 year old TV that has many of its parts NO Longer Available.

Yes...here's what happens...
TV turns on and is "normal" for only a few brief moments.
Then it flickers several times as it turns into blank blue screen and powers off by itself.
Had this problem a few months ago. It seemed to "correct itself" for awhile and is now back.
Any ideas how costly this repair is?
The answer was not clear.... mine is the same prolem. What is a CRT?
My screen gets a green tint when watching all programs. Sometimes it goes away but does come back. Sometimes it will get a green flash, then turn itself off. Please help!
