It could be that the bearing is on it's way out.

My Midea top loading washing machine is "creaking" whilst in normal slow wash cycle. High speed spin is normal?

There could be something is trapped and stuck and is caught inside of the filter or in the rubber seal or something is trapped in the drum in your washing machine. Or there is an uneven load then that might be casing a loud noise for the washing machine to make.

Why do i have loud noises coming from my washing machine only whilst it spins

The bearing in the drum has failed and it's always noiier as it spins faster as there is more debris being thrown around inside the hardened steel casing of the bearing. Bad news is that's a write off. Uneconomical repair. It will tear its self apart shortly, probably leaking grease into the wash and leaving black marks everywhere, oor the drive belt will come off, or the drum will impact the front gasket and fill the drum with smoke. Any way you look at it, it's almost certainly going to destroy a load of washing. Throw it away now before it wrecks your washing

Its not spinning and it was making a noise

Hi, if it doesn't spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

I'm afraid you will need to replace the bearings and seals. Shop around for decent prices.
Good luck.

Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Loading Washer Noise

Hello gwatson01,
Wondering if you could rate my clarification request as a solution? I joined this forum as a owner DIY’er to help other owners. The machine is just too expensive to junk and as you found fairly easy to work on. As a forum member as you I receive no compensation for my support to other owners. Thank you in advance for your support. Rich
My solution;
I’m an owner/DIY’er of the machine. Please take a look at this post and see if your mechanical noise may be coming from underneath the tumblers, maybe some coins grinding around under the tumblers. If you think it is take a look at the service manual link in that post. It will take you thru the tumbler removal process, see if you feel comfortable with the process, the manual does not call out a #20 Torx driver is required to remove the tumbler.
If you think the grinding noise is very metallic and not muffled by a tub of water the grinding noise may be coming from the transmission/clutch area and removing the machine front vertical cover will be necessary to better sound isolate the suspect area of the machine. Do you feel OK to remove the front panel? If so see this post.
The 1st link I sent you to shows that this owner had issues after the coin removal. I would also like you try a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Can you let me know if that cycle runs with no noise? We can’t totally rule out an issue with the clutch/transmission components with the info supplied so far. To help you remotely diagnose this issue detail information is needed. Let’s try to sound isolate the grinding noise source location. Follow all safety rules in the Service Manual. If you don’t feel comfortable to proceed I would recommend you call in a qualified FAV6800AWW repair service for support.

The neptune TL model 6800AWW makes a terrible noise at what seems to be the end of the wash cycle. Is this a rebalance? Because it sounds like metal against metal. Or could this be a belt issue. The...

Hello acelmo3,

Thank you for the model number, can you give me the first two digits of your serial number. That number is located on the back right side of the console. I only need the first two digits.10, 12, 16,,,etc.

Let's try to troubleshoot the grinding noise issue, You mention the spin cycle. Have you taken any dc or UC errors in spin cycle? Can you try the following and let me know what you find?

1. Open the lid and rotate tie wash basket by hand Counter Clock Wise, CCW. The wash basket should rotate freely with no restriction. The wash basket will not rotate Clock Wise, CW by hand.

2. Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. Raise the top of the machine to observe the wash basket and tumbler action described in step 2. (See page 33 of the Service Manual for putty knife insertion point). Also see pic attached.

3. With the top raised start a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket, observe the wash basket it will begin to rotate CCW. Watch the tumblers, they should not rotate in spin cycle (maybe ½ turn at the start of spin cycle and that’s all). If the tumblers rotate while the wash basket is rotating you have a clutch malfunction and the Spin Cycle will fail with dc/UC errors. If this is not the situation move on to step 3. This is what I refer to as a soft failure and possible clean up of the clutch roller bearings in the clutch hub may restore normal clutch operation. A hard failure would be the clutch spring has failed, the roller bearings are rusted beyond clean up. A replacement clutch is required.

We have a penny stuck under the white spinning things.

Hello pinkygirll,
The Service manual has the procedure starting on page 37 for the tumbler removal, take a look and see if you feel comfortable to give it a try. If you are handy or someone you know has basic mech. skill sets you can perform. You, I and many others need to check those pockets. Here is the service manual link.

The manual doesn’t call out the torx driver size required for tumbler removal. I just removed my tumbler cap and measured, it’s a #20 torx driver. If you call a repair service in make sure you have your Model# and Serial# number ready to pass along to them. You mentioned”” There is a penny stuck and the washer stops with water in it after it tries to spin.”” The tumblers do not rotate in spin cycle only the wash cycle. If you do a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket do you hear the grinding noise? Good Luck.

Washing machine making a clicking noise.

The problem most likely is something stuck in the water port of the drain pump. My machiine would not empty once and I found a 12 penny nail that had made its way from the drum though the drain line to the the pump, where it was wedged against the impellers that spins to draw out the water through the pump. The pump is located in the front right bottom of the machine and accessible by reoving the lower front panel, It is held in place by 4 small screws and is connected to the drain lines. Disconnect the plug for the outlet, then disconnect the power connection from the pump. Disconnect the drainlines after removing as much water possible from the drum as the water will come out of these liines when you remove them. Remove the pump, open the cover to see the impeller and hopefully the bobby pin, nail, screw, or whatever else is stuck there will be visible and easily removed. Put the pump cover back on, replace the drain lines and screws, and reconnect the power connection to the pump. Then do a better job checking your pockets.
