I upgraded my Dell Latitude C400 to Windows XP but the screen is reduced to 640x480 with 16-bit setting only. Leaving my viewable screen "floating" in the middle of the 12innch screen. Please help
I have had the same problem after switching harddrives on two different dells, a C840 and an older CPI. The blue error screen came up and after reloading the display is reduced and floating on the black background. It did seem to correct the issue by F2 to setup and then escape back. Why will it not boot to the correct screen display?I have had the same problem after switching harddrives on two different dells, a C840 and an older CPI. YOU NEED DRIVERS FROM DELL! WHEN YOU UPGRADED FROM YOUR OLD OS, SOMEHOW YOUR VIDEO DRIVERS WERE LOST. GO TO DELL WEBBSITE, LOOK FOR DRIVERS THAT FIT THAT MODEL DOWNLOAD, RESTART COMPUTER AND THERE YOU GO.

a aziz, Click the link below for instructions for manually reinstalling windows xp. You will also need to download xp sp3 from the Microsoft Website below. XP SP3 Download http://dell.to/1bjsYPI
If by "install new Windows" you are asking if you can install Windows 7 on this computer, then the answer is no. This computer was designed for XP and the hardware will not support Windows 7.
Try to make sure that all the cables are connected properly and that your hard drive has enough memory. Then make sure that your Windows XP DVD is not corrupted. Another thing you should try is loading a different OS like Vista or Windows 7.
http://www.user-guides.co.uk/cddownload/Dell/DellLatitude/Dell-Latitude-C400-XP-Driver-Recovery-CD-Restore-Disk-1420.html at this location you will find and be able to download an cd in image format ..probably ISO ..you have to burn it on a cd ..and use it al the time you reinstall ..I understood that there are all the drivers you need for your model Good luck!
Go into the setup menu on boot (before the windows screen appears) by pressing F2 or F10. Go to the Boot Options and check that the CD-ROM/USB Device boots before the hard disk drive. Save and Exit.
hi, i have dell c400 laptop, its to much simple to install xp first you just take out hdd from laptop plug in tht hdd in desktop pc by external usb box now u just start windows 98 setup in it when it started first format ur drive then install it when windows 98 setup files copies to 100%. machine need to restart u just plug out the hdd and plug in back to laptop now the setup will remain start in ur laptop and when the installation complete u just upgrade ur windows from 98 to xp by intalling xp from external drive on OPERATING SYSTEM OF 98 WINDOWS NOW WAT U SAY??? ITS TO MUCH SIMPLE just try once
try logging into support.dell.com get a driver for windows 2000 for the video card you have. Sometimes that driver will work for the XP session OK (XP will gripe about loading it but continue anyway.)
First check the sound settings, it could just need adjusting. If the settings are correct, then you have a driver glitch, uninstall the sound drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the sound card and reinstall the drivers automatically. Then check Dell's support site for updated sound drivers.
Try holding the Ctrl Key and scrolling the mouse wheel to reduce the size.
You may have magnifier running. Click the Windows plus U to bring up the utility screen and turn it off.
