I have had the same problem after switching harddrives on two different dells, a C840 and an older CPI. The blue error screen came up and after reloading the display is reduced and floating on the black background. It did seem to correct the issue by F2 to setup and then escape back. Why will it not boot to the correct screen display?

Dear sir i want to know that how could i install new windows in my Dell Latitude C400? I've searched many sites but in vain. Plz sir help me. I am waiting thanks

If by "install new Windows" you are asking if you can install Windows 7 on this computer, then the answer is no. This computer was designed for XP and the hardware will not support Windows 7.

I have a Dell Latitude C400 Laptop. it will not load Win XP

Try to make sure that all the cables are connected properly and that your hard drive has enough memory. Then make sure that your Windows XP DVD is not corrupted. Another thing you should try is loading a different OS like Vista or Windows 7.

After upgrading my c400 to XP, the screen resolution is not right

try logging into support.dell.com get a driver for windows 2000 for the video card you have. Sometimes that driver will work for the XP session OK (XP will gripe about loading it but continue anyway.)

Good Luck

Dell latitude c400 sound probel

First check the sound settings, it could just need adjusting. If the settings are correct, then you have a driver glitch, uninstall the sound drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the sound card and reinstall the drivers automatically. Then check Dell's support site for updated sound drivers.

Try holding the Ctrl Key and scrolling the mouse wheel to reduce the size. You may have magnifier running. Click the Windows plus U to bring up the utility screen and turn it off.
