Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My epson scanner cx5500 said, "Cannot properly communicate with scanner. The carriage unit may be locked depending on your scanner model." Then all the lights went flashing, I just bought this printer less than a month and this is the 2nd time i'm using it. All power plug was check and changed, but still, nothing changed, still the same message and lights flashing. I even downloaded updated version on software, but still don't help.

Epson self diagnose tool is only for PC, but i'm using a mac. Thanks anyway.

I have similar problem. My printer work perfectly ok till recently. It just show up "Cannot properly communicate with scanner. The carriage unit may be locked depending on your scanner model." and refuse to work.

Any help?

This sounds like there is a mechanical problem inside the scanner. You may want to open the scanner to see if there is anything broken or jammed. It may need some lubrication if it has been unused for a long period of time.

I think the USB cable is defective or the scanner is failing.

Open the lid or cover for scanner, look for the switch to unlock it by switching it to unlock position.

Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner, carriage unit unable to move

I have had the sam problem on 2 of the same scanners. Open the scanner cover and slide the transparency unit transportation lock to the unlocked position. Then close the scanner cover.Power it on and there you go.Somehow this little switch can get moved and there is the grinding noise and not working.

easy solution~ : )
connect the printer usb plug to usb port that direct from the motherboard. not the front side usb port of casing. : )

Epson cs5500 scanner software wont work

try downloading the latest drivers from epsons website. if coping is working and printing is working, it sounds like a software problem. Its possible there is a bug in the scanner part of the drivers.

Scanner problem of Epson stylus CX5500

There is 4 buttons on the left hand side of the unit, these are for copying only. the scanning component of you printer is software driven. You will need to have setup the Epson scanning utilities on your computer. These came with the printer when you purchased it, however are also available for download from Epson in your country / region. Just go to www.epson.com and select your country and download the scanning utilities for your printer.

Problems with v350

HI-

Try to reseat or unplug and replug the usb cable for the scanner to your mac, errors indicating that the computer is not communicating with it. you can also go to apple icon then go to system prefences or system profiler, click on hardware then USB check if there is an epson scanner under USB device tree

If the unit is in warranty, get Epson out to it. If not check the simple things like making sure the head lock is not on. Look to see if the scanner head starts to move at all when you power up the unit. If the head does not move at all or makes an unusual noise, chances are the unit is complaining that the head is stuck or requires too much effort to move it. Other possibilities include a communication error between scanner and main board of the SPC or SPC and your computer - indicates broken connection or bad USB cable. POssibly a fault with the mainboard of the SPC itself. Error ?Cause *Remedy Scanner error ? Lamp has burnt out. * Replace the scanner lamp. ? Power is turned on without unlocking the scanner. * Unlock the CR. ? The scanner carriage is interfering with any other part. * Remove the obstacle. * Replace the scanner carriage unit.
