The LCD screen's connection to the circuit board is not seated properly, or the LCD screen itself is defective. You are correct in that when you touch the screen you are affecting a bad connection. You should take the item back to the place that repaired it, or find another service center if they will not fix the problem for free. This is either a problem with their workmanship or with the LCD they installed.

The camera is shooting, pictures are taken- however i simply get a white screen and the picture stored is also white only

Refer to this service notice from Canon. If you can see icons on the LCD, and can view photos you have taken in the past, you probably have an image sensor (CCD) failure. If Canon determines this is the problem, they will repair your camera at no cost, regardless of warranty status.

So camera doesn't give live view to take picture? and you can view old / stored  pictures OK, is it?
If yes, then it is problem of CCD imager in Canon A80 and this part needs to be replaced.

Vertical lines obscuring image

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

LCD screen broken from being dropped - just a black splodge!

Replacement parts for digital cameras are hard to come by. even if you could find one, the electrical connections inside the camera is more problematic. the best suggestion is to take it to a camera shop and see how much the repair cost would be, (probably over $100). if you do not want to invest that in a repair, there are some really good digital cameras out there for about the same price as the repair. If you want to try finding an LCD screen for your camera, try Camera Repair Japan, CRJ, located in Duluth, GA, phone # 770-849-0555. Good luck.

LCD won't work in shoot mode, but work in playback mode

It's unusual that you can review pictures, but not see the menu. Take a picture with the camera. If this picture shows up black, then it's probably be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon will fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Canon a80 camera

It seems that either the image sensor or the connection between the image sensor and the processing board has been damaged or was improperly installed. If you sent it in because the lens was jammed it is highly likely that this is what has happened. See if you can get the facility who repaired it to cover the re-do, in the end it is their fault if your CCD is defective now and was not before the repair. However - if the camera was non functional after you dropped it they could very well say that the impact caused the problem. You might have no options besides either dealing with the issue or replacing the camera. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
