Flash Not Working/Picture Not Taking Unless Flash Turned Off
Hello. Now, on a 2nd camera, my Stylus 410's flash stopped working; we accepted that it must have been something we had done with the first, it has happened to our 2nd camera, and I see that I am not alone.
With the flash turned on, the camera will not take picutes. I understand that it has to do with the flash not charging properly. What I am wondering is how does this happen? I am sure that with the 1st camera, it was not dropped, as Olympus claimed. I am 110% positive with this camera, and with a little research have found that I am not the only one. How might I fix this? Does anyone know how much it could run? Thanks so much for your help. =)
I called Olympus. They gave me the line about the cameras (both) being out of warrenty. I asked them if they would still fix it, since it seems to be a problem in the design of the camera, like it needs to be recalled. They said there was no recall on that item, and they were out of warrenty.
Perhaps if enough of us get together and document it, something can be done. I do not know much about that process. Does anyone else? Thanks all for your help. =)I called Olympus. My flash stopped working about two weeks ago. I know for a fact that it was not dropped or bumped. It just stopped for no reason. There is no doubt that there is design flaw. It would be cheaper to just buy another camera than have it fixed. My flash stopped working about two weeks ago. I know for a fact that it was not dropped or bumped. It just stopped for no reason. My camera was in a protective case in my drawer and I took it out last week and now it won't take pictures with the flash on. How rubbish. My camera was in a protective case in my drawer and I took it out last week and now it won't take pictures with the flash on. How rubbish.
I have the same Olympus Stylus 410 and, yes, the flash will not function. Because of this I cannot take a good picture. The orange light continues to flash indicating that the flash is charging, but it does not work. Pictures can only be taken without the flash on, and we know what that looks like.
I called Olympus, they stated that the bulb is out and it would cost $99.00 to repair.

I've the same problem, flash doesn't work. I played around with it, after adjusting the WB it took two more flash photos, then the flash was dead again. I've the same problem, flash doesn't work. Unable to take pictures unless flash is off. Only "works" outside and or in perfect light. This has to be an issue that Olympus Corp. should take care of in order to maintain their good reputation. That is this consumers opinion. I do like Olympus for their quality, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Same problem as many others. One of my two styluses have this problem. Like some of the users said that the yellow light flashes, indicating charging, and it does not turn green, to let the camera take picture. Taking picture without flash works. This occurrence happened to one of my OLY 410 two days ago. The camera works fine as long as the flash is in the off mode. My solution to the problem was to buy 3 of the same cameras! My first OLY 410 died six months ago. (screen died) This is my 2nd. I still have one left that works perfectly. When that one dies I'm switching to Canon! This occurrence happened to one of my OLY 410 two days ago. The camera works fine as long as the flash is in the off mode. Nice to know I'm not alone. My orange light comes on as if it's charging, but no picture is taken (even if the light flashes green) unless the flash is turned off.
Don't buy anymore Olympus cameras if they don't want to acknowledge a design problem. Mine stopped working about 2 months ago, after I promised to take pictures at a baby shower. All the pictures are no good because I couldn't use the flash. That's my suggestion. Get a new, updated camera from a different company.
No, I actually sent it to Olympus themselves. THEY claimed that there was a dent, and were going to charge to fix it. They claimed that it was dented, so the warrenty was voided... *sigh*

Well u can´t do much, it needs to have the board to be replaced. normally the repair centre just repair it, and if it is under warranty they will do it for free, probably the store was the one saying that u drop it to get some money.

Press cursor-right repeatedly to cycle through the various flash modes. The one you want is the lightning bolt in a circle with a slash through it. For full details see the "Using the flash" section in the reference manual (beginning on page 72 in my copy). If you need a manual you may download a copy from here.
Before trying the new battery, try cleaning the battery compartment contacts with a cotton swab dampened, not drenched, in rubbing alcohol. Blow dry the compartment and then try the new battery. Thanks, Dana
I have the exact same problem.
is it just something that happens with this specific camera ?
can someone please help. i spent alot on this camera and now its not working. i've had it for 4 years ?
The problem you are describing is a problem with the flash charging indicator switch inside the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $83 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.
It is something that seems to be a problem with the Stylus 410s. Olympus will not repair them unless they are under warrenty, I've tried. My best advice, and what I am in the midst of myself (I have 2 of these with the same problem) is to file with the BBB. Perhaps if enough complaints come through, they will begin to fix the stylus 410 defect as they should. Good luck. =)
This has happened with 2 of our Stylus 410s. It has to do with the flash not working. If you turn off the flash, the picture will take. I am trying to figure out how to fix the flash portion myself...=)
It is a problem that has happened to 2 out of 2 of my Stylus 410's. Olympus will not reapir them unless they are under warrenty (or for $175). I filed with the BBB...we'll see if that helps. They really need to recall them. Good luck. =)
