For some reason my rio carbon one seemed to have lost all the songs I put into it and I don't know why. When I tried putting them back on it didn't let me use the entire 6GB, it only let me use what I had left before losing all my songs. I reset it more than once and still couldn't recover neither my songs nor my memory. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?

Re: rio carbon pearl 6gb
On a windows computer go into my computer and explore your rio carbon folder. In there there should be at least 2 folders - Music and recordings. go into the music folder and all of your files should be there. Delete them all and start putting files on again.
If there are no files showing in the Music folder then go back to my computer and right click on your player and click on format. Accept all of the default values and click format. You will then need to download the firmware for your Rio. This can be downloaded from: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=234
Once you have downloaded it and your player has finished formatting then load the update by clicking on it and follow the instructions to install it. Once this is done then your player will be completely wiped and you can the start putting music back on it.

The Rio Carbon will not play songs from iTunes unless they are in mp3 format. If you cannot download the songs in this format then I would recommend a program such as mediacoder to convert the tracks. I don't know why iTunes was recommended for the Rio but I would just use drag and drop into the folder called Music on your Rio.
Try accessing the rio's hard drive through my computer to see if it can find the songs: they will be in a folder aptly called music within your rio carbon.
If this doesn't help then if it is picked up via my computer you could try wiping and rebooting your rio, read: http://www.fixya.com/support/r601327-wipe_reboot_rio_carbon
You may have to change the firmware for the rio carbon pearl but this is easy to find on their website.
I have bad news - I was completely unsuccessful in dragging tracks from the rio to my computer. You can load songs, but you can't "unload" them with the Rio Carbon.
Just in case your computer has capabilities that mine does not, try this:
Double-click "My Computer" on your PC desktop
Double click the Rio Carbon icon
Double click the "Music" folder
Try dragging a single music file from the "Music" folder window to your PC desktop - it will either work, or it will say that it cannot copy the file to the specified location.
Go to this part of the Rio website, and get the Plays for sure firmware update - even if you don't transfer any WMA files, this will help you get around the Windows Media Player 11 compatibility issue: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=234
(WARNING: make sure the player is fully charged before doing this, or your player will be permanently lost)
Perform a firmware upgrade as instructed on the rio website - it will wipe everything clean. Make sure the player is fully charged or this upgrade will kill the player.
Your power button may have come off inside the player, so you'll have to open it and resolder. Also test your battery voltage if its got a low voltage you'll have to rejuvenate it.
I think you should keep looking for another solution, but what i know is that for out of warranty carbon players you can't get it fixed through rio/sonic blue, they will only replace it for a new one/remanufactured one for 99$.

Good luck
first, and this is always good: If available, firmware for the Rio Carbon can be downloaded online.
Second, this might be the problem:
The Rio Carbon communicates with your computer differently in MTP mode than it does in MSC mode. When in MTP mode, the Rio Carbon cannot display hidden files in folders, cannot allow transfers to the root Rio Carbon directory, and cannot allow the creation of new folders. (Folders can be transferred to the Rio Carbon using drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste methods.) To use traditional folder options, change the Transfer Mode settings to put the Rio
Carbon in MSC mode.
Last,
"..Removing the Rio Carbon from a USB connection before Idle is displayed on the screen may result in a corrupting the player's file system.
If for any reason you suspect that your Rio player's file system has been corrupted, reformatting the player will restore the file system to its original state..."
