Lens & screen show black instead of item to be shot.

Item to be pictured don't show thru lens or on screen. It only shows a black screen but it display's the menu & function items on the screen when I hit those options. I replaced batteries & camera will take picture with flash but nothing shows but a black screen & there's no picture to view. Camera is in new condition and worked great each time I used it. It's never been exposed to moisture or mishandled & It's always put away inside camera bag. I have gone thru all info that came with camera & there's no info regarding troubleshooting. I have no idea why it just show's a black screen when everything else seems to be fine.

I've had my Fiji Finepix S5000 for about 5 years....I love it. Today I turned my camera on, with the lens cap on...(which has happened many time before) and when I turned it back off, took lens cap off and turned it back on...now i have just a black screen...it still takes picutres...but only of a black screen. Even in the eye viewing area...it's just black. The symbols are still there though. Can anyone help me here...can my camera be revived?

You need to go into the menu function to turn the screen on (this feature saves the batterys)

I have the same problem this guy had: I have a Sony Cybershot 8.1 megapixels. Every once in a while the screen will turn black when I turn the camera on. The display will come up (shaky hand, flash, etc.)...

The camera either has a stuck aperture inside the lens or a bad CCD sensor.

The aperture is the opening that allows light to enter the lens. If it's stuck closed no light goes in, so no display on the LCD and solid black pictures. The way to fix it is to replace the lens. You can try tapping or banging the camera on it's side on your hand or even gently on a table. This might unstick the aperture for a short time, but it will just stick again later.

If the CCD is bad the sensor won't show anything other than solid black, or sometimes purple/pink smeared lines. Again the solution is to replace the lens assembly, or look for a used CCD online and just switch that out instead.

Hope this helps!

Pictures won't show on screen

I have checked to see if I can simulate your problem on my D70.
There are no settings on the Set-up menu to turn off the display.
The display should show for a minimum of 6 seconds after a phot is taken.
You can reduce the screen brightness but that will not turn it completely black.
I presume you have eliminated all other possibilities by changing batteries, card, lens etc..
If so, it would suggest an LCD screen failure which would necessitate a repair by a Nikon agent.

When I turn on the camera. the lens will not extend. The screen
will not show anything but a message, " date & time are already
programmed". No menu item works. Pictures cannot be taken.
