I have a problem when I try and print anything from my computer. The printer appears to be on and functioning normally but as soon as I press print on my laptop the computer crashes and reboots and nothing prints. This happens every time!
I have tried reinstalling the printer onto my computer using the CD that came with it but this doesn't seem to have helped the situation. Any suggestions?

Download the newest drivers from here(one of the should work). Uninstall the printer and any software that still may be on the computer. Shutdown the computer and printer. Reboot the computer(with out printer hooked up) and start the new software install. It will tell you when to hook the printerup. Disable any virus protection or spyware programs before you start the install.
Let me know what happens.
Good Luck,
Tim

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
Disconnect the USB cable
connecting the printer from your computer.
On your computer, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes.
Delete the Lexmark print
object.
Reboot computer.
Re-brick your printer by
pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged
into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
When the printer turns on,
reconnect it to the computer.
Wait until your computer fully
recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers
and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print
a document to verify that the problem is fixed.
if the printer has the same exact status on another computer, you may need to remove the cartridges and the power cycle the printer, then put the cartridges back in.
if this does NOT happen when the printer is being used on another computer then you may need to uninstall and reinstall the printer from your computer.
Sounds like a hardware problem. Try connecting the printer to a different computer (plug and play) and then install the software. Try a different cable.
Silly question but is power getting to the printer?
There is a workaround that will work for many dos based programs.
It will remove several of the advanced feature from your printers functionality but may solve the problem.
Try this:
Open control panel, switch to classic view if not already in it. Open the Printers folder, then Right-Click on the Canon MF6540, select properties.
Once it opens the instruction may vary slightly for your printer but should roughly be:
1. Select the advanced tab, then click print processor, then select one of the RAW modes on the right and Ok twice to close the windows.
2. Try printing in the DOS program, if it fails, repeat step one and try the next option. If none of the RAW modes work, try the TEXT mode.
If none of these methods work you may need to emulate a LPT Port for the DOS program to Print to, forward it to the Printer and then repeat the above process. DOS programs are notoriously finicky about settings so you will likely have to try several settings to find one that matches.
If your first attempts fail and you need to emulate the LPT port get back to me by adding a comment to this post and I will see if I can find a good emulator to try for you. Or you can buy a router to connect the printer to that already has emulated LPT software such as the Linksys WRT610N. Sharing the printer through such a router creates a virual LPT port on your computer which may work.

I have the MFC 465CN - I was receiving two error codes:
Unable To Clean - Error 30
Unable to initialize
To fix, I first cleared the memory by unplugging the printer, then holding down the red stop/exit button, keep it held, power up the printer, and dont let up the button until it finishes the start up.
I then pressed the "ink" button and performed a cleaning, alignment, and quality check. After this, everything worked fine.
DO NOT try to print anything from your computer or have any pending print jobs while doing this - it appears that pending print jobs, or anything in the printers memory was interferring with the initilization and cleaning cycle it performs.
(1) Try a power cycle: Try turning the
printer off, then unplug the power supply from the printer, then unplug
the USB cable from the printer then the back of the computer; wait 30
second; then plug the USB cable back into the computer, then back into
the printer then plug the power supply back into the printer and turn
it on – run a test print: Start>Settings>Printers>Right-click on the printer>Properties>Print Test Page
on a windows system, go to printers and faxes, delete all icons there. unplug the printer, reboot your computer, then as soon as your computer is up, connect the usb cable... now wait..... after about 5 mins, check printers and faxes if it has an icon for your printer, if it does then print a test page, if it does not show an icon, try another cable, try another usb port or try it on another computer entirely...
