U can fix the screen problem by changing brightness and this is how u change keyboards Remove the four screws from below the touchpad / speaker assembly, note the size, they are different. Gently pry the touchpad / speaker panel upward beginning at one side. It may be a little stiff as there are plastic clips. With that removed the keyboard lifts out, release the retainer on the ribbon cable zif connector and remove the keyboard. For what it's worth, when I needed one, I found several keyboards on EBay for about $40 plus shipping or a new one from Compaq for $55 incl. shipping. They quoted UPS ground shipping but used next day air at no additional cost.

Hi, i aint had any joys in repairing 90% of laptop keyboards, but you can buy replacements for them from most companys, most i have ordered in for people are between £60-90 but as u can see is quite expensive, on most laptops u can usually adjust the brightness by using the FN + another key usually arrows on Acer Models. Hope you get it sorted.. John

My inspiron intel laptop screen has been darkening and flickering and I tryed to do what my laptop told me but it doesn't work is there another solution?

What did your laptop tell you?
Just curious

1) "Help, I'm being held prisoner inside this laptop"
2) "I'm tired, and I'm going to bed. Lights off"
3) "Use the Brightness control, and brighten this screen up"

J/K

An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

An Inverter (Screen Inverter) is used to convert the power from the laptop, to the Backlight, and LCD screen.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the Inverter, when it's a Display Assembly issue.
The rest is a bad LCD screen.

The Inverter is a small rectangular circuit board.
Example,

http://www.nylaptopparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=91_95_125&products_id=299

It is mounted behind the Display Bezel, and at the bottom of the LCD screen.
{The Display Bezel is the thin plastic frame in front of the LCD screen. Resembles a picture frame)

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9400/en/sm/display.htm#wp1006390

Scroll the page down.
(The Inspiron 9400 and Inspiron E1705 uses the same service manual)

Suggest you connect a VGA monitor to the back of the laptop, to the blue VGA connector.
(Laptop OFF, external monitor {VGA} OFF)

You can use a VGA monitor that is a CRT. Looks like a small TV.
Or you can use a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

Turn the monitor on. If it is a CRT model, let it warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

The display should automatically be on the external monitor. If it isn't press, and hold down on the Fn key, then tap the F8 key once.
No? Tap the F8 key again. (Still holding down on the Fn key)

If the graphics (Display) is the same on the external VGA monitor, as they it is on the laptop's internal monitor, you have a graphics chipset problem.
Usually requires motherboard replacement, unless you know a really skilled tech.

If the graphics are fine on the external monitor, you have problems in the Display Assembly.

More than likely the screen Inverter.

Pictorial guide for replacing the LCD screen, and the Inverter,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-in-dell-inspiron-9400/

Suggest:
1) Use an ESD wrist strap, and connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.
You can also connect to a unpainted surface of a metal table leg )

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available, you can use a clean egg carton as a substitute.
Label each egg holder.
Some screws look VERY similar to other screws.
DO NOT mix them up.

My screen on my Dell Inspiron Notebook went black. But I can barely see on the screen that the computer ran a problem check and said my computer was having a problem starting.

The invertor lamp has gone bad, so you would need to replace the LCD screen. there is nothing else you can do. try to connect an external monitor adn then press Fn + F8 to switch the video to the external monitor. if the image on the external monitor is fine then its the lcd. if the external monitor has the same image then motherboard problem. you can also try Fn + Up arrow key to increase the brightness.

Monitor comes on very dim, I can't see

click your "fn" key and then press the brightness key on the keyboard (it will be a blue or green "sun")
If this does not work, plug an external monitor to the laptop, if the screen is good on the monitor, your LCD display panel is shot.

DELL inspiron 6400 laptop screen turned black

this sounds like a classic case of inverter problems, it could be just inverter coil thats gone which is an inexpensive repair, if it is the inverter then its a bit more.
try the Fn the F key that shows two tv screen icons, it may just have switched to external mode by accident

good luck

Dell Inspiron 2200

You can try a system restore back to a point you remember it working, but most likely you will have to do a bios flash or an operating system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.
