My dell 1700n printer keeps jamming. I have switched paper and cleaned it but still it jams on every page.
Try "rotating the pick up tires". (dell tech's phrase, not mine). pull the paper tray clear out of cabinet and look up inside the bottom of the printer. you will see a t shaped assembly with 2 large rubber tires (rollers). pull the assembly down (spring loaded) and peel the tires off the plastic mounting rollers. turn the tires inside out and replace them.

I've worked with these guys at a large state agency for aboutr 3-4 years now and have found the only thing necessary is to remove the pick rollers and clean them with soap and warm water, dry thoroughly and reinstall--thiss is because the rollers have loaded up with paper and/or toner dust. Alcohol dries them out and rubber rejuvenator works but melts plastic on contact!!

I took all of the above advise into consideration. While talking the wheels off (the little clip that holds them on broke - however the wheel still goes on and stays on without a problem) i just thought why not take the little rubber ring off and flip it inside out. The rubber portion of the wheel does come off easily and if you turn it inside out you have a fresh side of rubber to grip the paper and there ya go - it works like a charm

If the printer jams while the paper is still in the tray it is due to worn out pick rollers, if it jams while going into the back of the printer, the gears on the fuser are shot. If it jams while coming out of the back of the printer the sensor flag on the fuser is either dirty or broken.

I put a strip of double stick tape on the intake rollers. It grabs the paper and gets it going. Works much better than trying types of paper to see which one the printer likes.

Try to change the surface on which the printer is placed, b/c for a printer to work perfectly, it needs to be placed on such a surface that all four sides of the printer are on the same level.

I noticed this problem on alot of Dell 1700 printers. I ended up purchasing Ruber Rejuvinator and using it on the rollers. They work like brand new. I had tried rubbing alcohol, it worked but ended up drying the rubber out eventually.

SOURCE: Dell 1700n Laser Printer paper jams
Some questions first: -Where in the paper path is it jamming? -Is it always in the same spot or does it vary? -Roughly how many pages have you printed with this printer? -Did anything lead up to this or has it progressively gotten worse?

my 1700 is jamming when i use letterhead. please advise
I have a dell 1700 laser. I can't put more than 1/2 load of paper or it jams every time. Even when I only have 1/2 or less in the tray, it jams evrt other time. The jam is simply the paper getting part way into the chute then it stps. It is nevber what you would call a classic jam with paper in the gears, etc. Frustrating!
doesn't pick-up paper but comes with paperjam error, how do I get this right
1700N jams constantly in the back even when you feed paper in through manual feed.
How do you repair or clean the fuse in the back?
