Xbox 360 doesn't respond when I select an option in the dashboard

After installing the NXE dashboard update, I am having problems selecting most of the options on the dashboard. If I go to the options in My Xbox and Welcome, I can select those just fine. I can play games on Xbox live without any problems. However, if I go to the dashboard options in Video Marketplace, Game Marketplace, Events, etc., I can't select any of the options. For example, if I go to Netflix in Video Marketplace and hit A to select, the console makes a sound as if it knows I hit A, and the "A - Select" in the lower left corner lights up. However, nothing else happens. There is no "hang" time - it doesn't seem to be trying to load anything at all. There is no response when I hit A to select an option other than the sound. I know that my controllers work because I am able to play games with no problems. There is no problem with my connection, because I am able to connect to Xbox live and play games online without a problem. It isn't a problem with Netflix specifically, because I can't select any options that aren't in "My Xbox" or "Welcome." I have tried to select these options with both profiles that are on my Xbox, to no avail.

I have tried:
-resetting my router
-power cycling the modem
-restarting the Xbox
-deleting and recovering my profile
-performing maintenance on the console through the system settings

Xbox customer "support" has been horrific so far - condescending and unhelpful, as if the problem is that I don't know how to plug a modem into a wall. So frustrating. So I thought I'd come on here, where people actually know what they are doing.

X-box 360s brand new, cannot get it to download the update

Hello

The easiest option to update the Xbox 360 hard drive is to connect to Xbox Live. The console will automatically prompt the user to install any available updates. Alternatively, users can download the update files to a USB flash drive to transfer to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

Update via Xbox Live

Open the Xbox 360 dashboard menu. This menu automatically appears when the console is turned on. Press the "Xbox" button, followed by the "Y" button to return to the dashboard menu from a game.

Scroll up to the "My Xbox" tab of the dashboard menu.

Select "System Settings" from the "My Xbox" section of the dashboard. Scroll to the right while the "My Xbox" tab is selected to reach the "System Settings" icon.

Select "Network Settings" from the "System Settings" menu.

Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" from the network settings. A prompt will appear to update the Xbox 360 hard drive if your system is not already updated to the latest version.

Select "Yes, update now" to install the latest updates to your Xbox 360 hard drive.

Updating via USB Flash Drive

Copy the update files onto the root directory of your USB flash drive. You can download the Xbox 360 update files by going to download.microsoft.com/download/1/d/8/1d8c09be-278e-41cd-98be-eb9188128227/$systemupdate9199.zip. You must extract the files from the .zip file before placing them on the USB drive. The update files cannot be placed into a folder or the Xbox 360 system will not recognize them.

Remove the flash drive from your computer.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port on the Xbox 360 console.

Turn on the Xbox 360. An update prompt will appear when the system powers up.

Select "Yes, update now" to update the Xbox 360 hard drive.

When you select the IP Settings block, you are prompted to select an Automatic or Manual configuration. If you select Automatic, the Xbox 360 console will try to automatically determine your IP settings from your network or from your modem or Internet service provider (ISP). This option is recommended for most users.

You may have to or prefer to manually configure the IP settings, especially when a static IP address is used. This is necessary only if your ISP has issued a static IP address, or if you have configured the router to issue static IPs (and DHCP is not used). To manually configure the settings, select Manual, and then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway by using the keyboard on the screen. When the information is complete, select Done.

The xbox states that we have a connection and when finished with the systems check goes to load an update but fails and then xbox live fails. I am using a cox cable modemn to the dlink 624. works on...

Hi,

Give your X360 a static IP address and go into your router interface, find the DMZ feature and put in the IP address that you gave the X360, just make sure the IP you give it is within the DHCP pool of IP addresses.

The X360 will now be sat outside the routers firewall giving you FULL access to internet content and gaming online.

Now test connection settings and you will notice you will now have an open connection to the internet.

Thanks

How do u download a game in my xbox 360

To download a game disk, you need the NXE dashboard update.
If you have that, insert your game disk and once the game has started quit back to your dashboard and select Games Explorer. Search the list for the game in your disk drive and press A. The downlaod game option is in the list. You will need roughly 5-9 GB's of free space depending on the game.
