I have 2 Brother IntelliFax machines that are both on the same dedicated line. I would like to set them up so that one machine can send & receive and the other only send. Any ideas?

This means your receive mode is set to TAD or telephone answering device. If you have a dedicated phone line it should be in Auto or automatic receive. There is a button on the panel to change the mode to auto.
To set up for receiving Fax, do the following:
Press Mode button repeatedly untin Fax and Fax/Tel lights are lit.
Faxes will automatically print and answering machine will take the calls. If you have a dedicated fax line, do the following:
Press Mode button repeatedly until just the FAX light is lit. Then the machine will answer every call as a fax.
Problem lies in your Receive Mode setting. If you don't have a dedicated phone line for the fax machine, you need to set it up for either Manual where you answer every call or Fax/Tel whereby the Fax machine determines if the incoming call is a fax or phone call. Instructions per Intellifax 4100 Manual.
Select a Receive Mode
Choose the mode that best suits your needs by pressing the Mode button
repeatedly until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights show the setting you want to use.
Manual
You must answer every call yourself.
The Brother machine must be started manually
to receive faxes.
Fax
For use with a dedicated fax line.
Every call is answered as a fax.
Fax/Tel
For receiving fax and voice calls on one line.
The FAX answers every call and receives a fax or
double rings for you to pick up a voice call.
TAD
For use with an answering device.
The TAD answers every call and stores voice messages.
Fax messages are printed.
Setting Ring Delay: The Ring Delay setting determines the number of
times the fax machine rings before it answers. If you have extension
phones on the same line as the fax machine, keep the Ring Delay at a
default setting of 4: 1 Press Function/Set, 2, 1. 2 Press < or
> to select how many times the line rings before the fax machine
answers (00 – 04) and press Function/Set. If you select 00, the line
doesn’t ring at all. 3 Press Stop to exit.
Pick up the receiver and see if you hear a fax tone noise. If so then push the start button and hang up. Is this machine on a dedicated line or shared with the main phone number? Sometimes some people will pick up the receiver on their fax machine dial the fax number and wait for a tone before sending. If this is the case the machine can not recognize that is a ax. Make sure your machine is set for auto receive if it is on a dedicated line.
Things to check:
Do you have a live phone line?
Are you using a dedicated fax line?
You can check your fax line by using the feature hook call. Not all machine have them. Or use the hand set.
If you have a live phone line now check this.
Is you fax set to auto answer?
If it is not you need to either find how to set it on the diplay or refer to your owners manual. If this does not work after you have done this then you possibly have a bad modem.
