When the tank gets to half full (or half empty if you're so inclined), my air-o-swiss starts to turn itself on and off at short intervals (10 sec. or so) as if not enough water was in the tank. It always used to do this when the tank was getting totally empty but now it does it even as there is enough water. I changed the filter and cleaned the machine but that didn't help. It seems like it could be a problem with the floater. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Here is the manual if you need it http://www.plaston.com/uc/ats/products/ultrasonic/aos7133/index_html/manual on page 6 you can see item k - the water level sensor - i believe it is electronic not a float device (but either way the same is usually true)- usually these can fail when dirty - limescale mostly. a lot of the problems may be the result of not replacing the demineralisation cartridge often enough. descale by leaving overnight with around 40% vinegar solution full to the top, make sure the demineralisation cartridge is removed while u descale - check pages 9& 10. Hope this helps :)

if no joy with this try neat vinegar, but ideally use white vinegar (available from hardware stores) as it has little residual smell - any descaler other than vinegar is likely to damage certain parts and vinegar should work fine.
If still no joy see if you can remove the sensor through the base and perhaps it can be cleaned separately - be very gentle.

Q: Unit is running intermittently.
A: How long has it been since the contents of the cartridge were
replaced? If 2-3 months have passed, it is time to replace the contents
of the cartridge. However the demineralization cartridge and or the
granules must be exchanged at the latest after 6 months or the unit
ceases operating at its full performance. If the contents of the
cartridge were just replaced there are probably too many granules in the
cartridge. Remove 2 tablespoons of granules from the cartridge.
