Hi,I am having a problem with my Compaq V2000. For a while it kept shutting down on me without any heating problem. This happened after not working on it for 3-4 weeks. Now it does not TURN ON. when I plug it to the power I don't show any lights ON at all. I had my Charger checked and there is no problem related to the charger. Could it be the Power Supply or the Mother board? How can I find that out without taking it to shop. It had passed the warranty. :( I appreciate any respond. Eva
Whell the answer is pretty complicated but however I'll try to give you some info. Laptops have some safety features on them. When you power up a laptop it does something called POST. (Power on self check) This is a BIOS function and after the laptop is powered (only then the BIOS is brought online) it displays eventual errors on the screen and so on. However laptops also have some hardware level potections. They use the various LED's on them to display a error code. If the charger wouldn't work properly some of this LED's will power on in a weird configuration, signaling an error code. If no LED, no response, no nothing ..maybe the problem is more simple. An internal faulty connection for example. You may dissasemble the laptop (if you have some basic knoledge of that, and some proper tools like a multimeter to measure some parameters). After that check the entire area around the DC jack connector for lose connections or burned out components. If you have another question, or want to do that, please reply with another question, to take this to a more deeper level.
