Well, our TV got fixed...we actually got our renters insurance to cover it.....we said that "weather" was a factor...anyhoo, we found a tv repair guy and when he took apart the bottom half of the tv, one of the circuts were "burnt". Whatever that means, but the fact that this TV was only a couple years old really pissed me off! And i see that I wasnt the only one with that strange "coinsidence"

That same problem is why I am searching the net for R40W46 information. It appears this is a common failure. I cleaned the dust out and plugged it back in and turned it on. The problem is a High Voltage leak on one of the guns. That is all I know.

I tried to find and authorized Zenith repair shop. The nearest one is over 120 miles away. Unless I can find a schematic and information on parts pricing, this expensive TV, less than 3 years old, is not going to get repaired.

TV screen is blank but the program is still playing

Check the cables, makes sure all connections are still snug. If your using HDMI, try swapping it out for one you know works. There are a lot of lemons out there.

Sound but no vision, black screen

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

Was watching tv and it suddenly went blank. I hear it turn on but no picture or sound. What might be the problem and how costly to repair

sounds like a high voltage problem, could be the horizontal driver or something in the high voltage section.

While watching the tv, there was a sudden loud, sharp pop, sounding like a gun shot, and the picture went blank

Sounds like either something went pop on the main pcb or in the power supply. Will need a repairman to take a look. & Just a caution if you're feeling adventurous, don't do it yourself unless you know what you're doing!!

Sony KV-32S36 32" suddenly stopped working, no picture or sound

Check soldered in fuse R607 in power supply circuit =
If open, replace it and bad converter xistors ( 2SC4834)
Next, replace shorted horizontal output transistor w/ first Quality.
Solder any / all bad connects, esp.horiz drive to base of horiz.
o / p xistor. Soldering is critical or it will blow up again......

Loud electrical sounds

It sounds like the Power transistor that drives the High Voltage Transformer shorted out. The rapid clicking sound you are hearing when pressing the power button now is that of the power supply starting to come up, detecting a short circuit and shutting back off again, preventing further damage. It is likely that the HV Transformer is shorted as well which usually causes the Output transistor to fail. Since the set is only 2 1/2 years old, it is probably worthwhile getting it to a repair shop as long as you have been very satisfied with the picture quality up to this point. If the picture size was larger than you needed, you might consider going down to a 37" LCD HDTV set. Toshiba is tops in this category IMHO.
