SOURCE: My fan is not working....just hums.

Getting into window unit is tricky. The motors go out quite often. Might be capacitor. But you have weigh wether it cost more to fix than replace. Rus

Sub zero. 650 reefer. Significant hum coming from top mounted compressor, but still marginal cooling. Now a louder hum and unit no longer cooling.

Hi roger,

I see you concern, and if the unit does not cool anymore and there is a humming noise then you will need to replace or have your compressor repaired no doubt.

Have a nice day,

After oven turned on for normal baking it starts to hum rather than typical noise from exhaust fan.

If you're not hearing the fan turn at its normal speed, it is possible that your fan motor has become stalled. AC motors will often hum or buzz when they can no longer turn but still have power applied to them. This could be due to bad bearings, or a blockage of some sort. It's probably not easy to get to, but if you can hand check the fan it should spin quite freely. Be sure to unplug the unit before messing with the insides, or shut of its circuit breaker if it's a built-in unit.

I have my dometic Rooftop ac unit. The heatstrip/fan run perfectly but when I turn on the ac...the fan runs good but when the compressor kicks on it just hums.

The compressor coming on does make a slight "humming" sound which is normal. Is the unit cooling properly? Do you think it is louder than before?

Carrier Compressor Issues?

When you shut it off and back on it slugged the compressor if you turn it off and back on before the pressures equalize between the high and low sides it will slug the compressor and it will not run should let sit for five minutes or so before restarting. The humming is either the compressor making noise usually common for the compressor to make some noise or the fan motor bearings are getting bad on the outside unit. If the unit works normal probably not much you can do till it breaks if it is the compressor it is more economical to replace the whole unit if it is just the fan motor it is worth changing. You could take an amp draw on the fan motor and the compressor to see if the are within the limits on the name plate of the outside unit.

Hums and freezes up????

The fan motor must have been stopping. If the fan stops, for sure the fins will freeze because there is no air flowing. common Fan motor problems defective bearing or bushing and starting condenser. If the bearing is defective, it will heat up and seize. Have the fan motor checked. The fact that the fins are freezing, means that there is enough freon and the compressor is working.
