Acer Aspire 7540 won't connect to wireless or ethernet

Acer Aspire 7540 laptop Windows 7 will not pick up on wireless network, or network using ethernet cable. Says there is something wrong with wireless adapter or access point, however I am accessing that very network on my desktop right now. Already tried unplugging the modem the modem and blah blah blah.

Also, desktop's internet is Bell, the desktop I can connect to the internet from has a program called Network Magic on it, which is stating that either I do not have wireless internet (which I most certainly do) OR that Network Magic does not support wireless networks as of this time. My Acer does not have a switch on it ANYWHERE that allows wireless connect and disconnect, my previous HP laptop did have one so I know what I would be looking for to find it. I pressed a button that has the bluetooth symbol on it and it comes up on the screen saying No Device. PLEASE HELP, I am thoroughly annoyed!

NO HISTORY TOLD, AT ALL, FOUND IT WIFI DEAD, OR JUST NOW WIFI IS DEAD.
THE COMMENT ON WIFI SWITCH IMPLIES TO ME NEVER EVER SEEN WIFI WORK ON THIS PIG.
    RIGHT?
"Already tried unplugging the modem the modem and blah blah blah." (THE CABLE MODEM OR THE PC;S LAND LINE DIAL UP MODEM CARD????)
BLAH BLAH SURE means isp told you to do that , but wifi works on other PC so why do that at all? don't

I will run with found on road dead, PC. (all the ways that) not bought new and died now, not that.

your drivers are here, get them w7 and load them first even via 2nd Pc on a usb thumb drive.
load lan and the wifi set. first.
we called that for decades the sneaker net, as in loading drivers on 2nd PC and steaking them to dead PC.
    dead as in lan dead.
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su...

there are only 2 ways to skin this cat.
1: sneaker net. them all (drivers)
2: or just get the w7 ethernet driver only on 2nd PC and move it to dead PC, using usb thumb drive.
then get eithernet up (it just plugs in with cat5 cable) to router, direct.
then down load the wifi, drivers, if the card is there. at all that is. we look first, not last.

2009 relic laptop. the RTC coin cell 12 years old is no good and can NOT BE IGNORED. ever. when dead.

my guess is this PC is from a garage sale for $5 (5times worth)
    right
and failed to see in device manager lots of things dead, well that be normal if the last geek
deleted xp and put on w7 and now all the w7 drivers are missing, LAN and wireless and more.

to do that job right the PO, Geek needed to down load all drivers w7 from ACER, this pC.
and then load them after w7 was installed.
now lan works (ethernet) and wifi if the card is even there.

that is it in a nut shell.
at home wifi works we get that, and does.
no history at all told on this nasty acer junk. (yes I abhor Acer) their docs stink ! and there online help matches that due to same reasons, facts are super hard to learn on any ACER.
but here is all I know and want to ever.

not told ever , I found this PC, with wifi dead
or just this week, after running for years long, wifi dies. (and gee ethernet too, )
or after upgrading to w7 wifi is dead. sure it is. lacking all acer. drivers for this PC, not obtained first by you.
or device manager shows all these things dead, missing or wrong or unknown.
    or
the wifi airplane mode is turned on.
or wifi card is missing or dead, many are this old, buy a new one.
Ethernet dead means 1 thing the ehternet chip driver is missing.

no history told ,makes cures super hard, even kids playing with it can wreck it, endless ways.

the CMOS RTC coin cell battery is no good from 2010 to now. its dead
and when dead all settings are lost for BIOS that means even wifi option in BIOS set false.
it really is silly to use any laptop this old ,and not test or replace the RTC coin cell first.
below 2.9vdc is bad, coin. for sure.
the F2 key is bios entry hot key powered on , and hammered.
the manual on the PC stinks to high heaven, no wifi topics covered at all. in the manual.
it shows dial up modem and Ethernet only, in the manual.
Wireless LAN Driver (XB63 XB91 HB93 HB95) drivers, shown on this PCs web page acer.com
the xb63 removed from your PC , or missing looks just like this.

i has to bet there and 2 antenna's connected and the acer.com w7, XP63 driver loaded
and the device manager happy with this card.
then load the ethernet driver from acer.com for this PC and W7 only. (doing this first is smarter.) so you can then get eithernet working first. using only the acer.com driver,

    Also, desktop's internet is Bell,
what in the world does that have to do with the acer laptop (im sure some old Packard Bell PC you called bell)

learn to use device manager, is your hank up here, learn to do that. first.
and see OMG most w7 drivers for vast chips here are missing, omg what to do.
answer get them from acer.com and load them all first.
then look in the hatch covers, for the wifi card above, next, if missing wifi will NEVER EVER work.
here is your acer bottom cover, see all those haches open we look here first to see what you have first.
what you see is what you got, wysiwyg.

no PC made has worse documentation than rotten stinking acer,, but I do have nice monitor by them here.
id never buy anything from Acer, new, not me, for sure nasty PCs. with rotten dirty generic manuals
    horrid support. there,.
buy Dell and win. no kidding, even used, even with w8 on it and free w10 upgrade.

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2021

more the mobo bottom side has a nice coin cell socket, just like desktops to, nice
the center hatch is WIFI card, seen on youtube strip down page.
the cell is top front center of mobo, seen here clearly
    https://youtu.be/dKnKcPZtni8?t=1612

that is all you need to know on hardware, COIN CR2032 and wifi card locations
the coin cell is at Walfart, exit checkout lane #15, here, state side./

NO SERVICE MANUALS AT ALL. !!! on their website at all and not for CUSTOMERS, ever. (never by Acer)
the maker only sells those books to only official repair shops (told on THEIR ONLY FORUM THERE)
    next time buy DELL
the maker does not post a list of qualifed wifi cards
nor do they tell or publish if wifi is black listed ,like all HP PCs are, (nasty that)

one the bottom hatch called WIFI and look see it there,.yes/no?
if no then it must be bought first.
if yes read the tags on it and post what you read.
or get ethernet working first and pay the wifi drivers load via online plug and play PnP'
id do ethernet first, and always do.

    bad drivers is why.
1: not using the official drivers from Acer.com for w7
2: got them from virus site now double bad, driver dead and for free, a nasty virus or trojan or rootkit infected.
    3: the driver is missing.
4: the WIfi is missing or the wrong one there (we look at it with eyeballs and learn what is really there)
5: the oS was infected from the get go, oops. (reload w7 fresh and then do #1 again.
6: hdd is bad and OS files are now corrupted and vast things fail. time for a new HDD

First make sure you have the latest update for your bios and wireless device, your os is probably non preload so clean any access connections utility provided by ibm, rather than using the ibm thinkvantage access connection make sure to use the windows own utility to control the wireless device

You might need to disable the dial-up connection. You might also need to enable the two network connections, sometimes they are disabled upon setup by default? What operating system are you running?

SOURCE: Laptop shows 'A network cable has been unplugged" every 5 seconds

Try installing the lastest drivers for your onboard ethernet board:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=713723&rpn=PSA70U&modelFilter=A75-S206&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

Go to this site and choose your operating system and choose LAN. Download the one that is not wireless. Download it and install it.

Once your done installing it see if it works properly. If not then change out your cat 5 cable with a new known working one. If it still doesn't work then look at where the cable connects to the outlet and make sure none of the pins are ben are out ao alignment. If they are then move them back into position.

If after all of this the problem still extists then that means the motherboard would need to be replaced.

SOURCE: Cant access internet through wireless network.

if it flashes orange it is trying to connect and detect the internet, if you are connected to your wireless router but no internet check the security keys on the router and the laptop if they are the same, I guess you get the error limited connectivity, and if possible check for programs that could cause your wireless to not get the internet but get connected to the router, check for network magic uninstall the program from your system restart the computer try connecting again.

worst case that can happen is you can try uninstalling the wireless drivers and reinstalling it if the wireless devices gets an error during installation of the driver then you will need to replace your wireless card in your laptop, orange flashing in router meaning it does not detect internet from the modem ^_^

I just used recovery disk to restore back to factory setting for acer aspire 7741Z. Now it won't recognize my wireless router

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I have a 'new' aspire one netbook and i cant make work. it says in need to be connected to a network. ihave an acerlaptop that works just fine on network 7AP13. i am connected verizon fios and am not

That means there is a corrupt or a missing wireless driver on your new acer laptop. First of all if you are using Windows XP follow the following
1. Go to start
2. Right-click on "My computer"
3. Go to "Properties
4. Go to Hardware tab
5. Go to Device manager
In the device manager check for any yellow question mark or an exclamation mark. Especially on the network adapters. That means if you had the network drivers working before, then they are corrupt or they are not there at all.

Here is the solution..
visit acer.com and go to their downloads and support tab, you will be abel to see the model of your computer and you can download the wireless drivers that are compatible with your laptop.

My netbook won't let me connect to a wireless network, it tells me to reset my wireless adapters. I don't know how

To reset the wireless adapter, click "Start", click "Control Panel", and go to "Network Connections" (XP) or "Network and Sharing Center" (Vista or 7), Vista and 7 will have to click "Network Adapters" from there. This should bring up a screen with all available network adapters. Right click the one that likely has the word "wireless" or a "g" "b" or "n" in the name, and click Repair or Reset.

Installed windows 7 but but now cant get wireless to work network driver not detected i tried downloading driver still nothin

Try connecting your laptop to your router using a standard ethernet cable (looks like a phone cable) and see if it gets online that way. If it doesn't get online that way it may be your router.

How do I turn off WIFI on Acer 5720 and use ethernet cord

If there isnt a button on the laptop to switch it on and off, then the easiest way to turn it off is to disable the wireless network adapter.
To do this, open Control Panel and double click Network Connections.
This will then show your wireless and ethernet adapters as icons.
Right click on the wireless adapter and then select "disable".
Your wireless adapter should now show as disabled.
If in the future you want to turn it back on, do the same again but select "enable".
