Picture is cut off on the bottom of my Hitachi 57F500

Part of the picture and subtitles get cut off on the bottom of the screen. There is a black area on the top of the screen that looks like the screen should be able to be adjusted. I can't find any menu option that lets me do this except for Vertical Positioning, which is unavailable to select.

Verical position is hard to adjust and is in service menu. A service manual will get you there, but you might get lucky with the vertical size adjustment. If you open the front of the TV, the vertical size is adjusted with a knob on the deflection board. Remove the speaker grille and take off the access panel. You will see two knobs, one horizontal and one vertical. Be careful, those red wires have 30,000 volts on then, don't touch anything but those knobs. If its just an adjustment, the v-size knob will fix. Set it so ESPN ticker is just above the bottom of the screen. *Service mode - the manual tells little but entering is done by "press and hold the input button, press the power button, release both after you hear HV come up" .. the v-pos parameter is in there, but this manual doesn't say where or how to adjust, procede at your own risk. If you get into trouble, pull the power so you don't save any settings. I believe you just navigate through the menus to find the parameter and use arrows to adjust. Enter may save. Sorry the service manual I have tells nothing much.

Tv screen only shows half of the picture ?

I would imagine the bottom or top half is black. My first suspicion, the vertical IC has bad grounds and needs resoldering. Do not short the pins together with excess solder! I would certainly start there for repairs. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

The picture has a red color

You need to First turn Color Off In the Menu then, Find the Screen and Focus Control Block
adjust the Red/Green/Blue Screen drives To a Black and White Picture, Then Go Back to Menu -Color and turn Color Back on.
Remove the Front Bottom Panel and Control Block is behind it. It will have 3 controls on top for Focus and 3 under them for Screen Drive to each Tube R/G/B

Expanded screen

If it only does it via the coax or cable fitting it may not be the set.

Does it do the same thing when playing a DVD etc?

If problem is on all inputs it is a deflection problem in the set which for whatever reason has over scanned the picture to tall---it suggests a problem in the Vertical deflection circuit of the set (top to bottom is vertical deflection).

Picture jumps

you might have bad caps or the vertical output integrated circuit, try to locate the vertical ic and check the surrounding areas for bad capacitors.

good luck

Hitachi 57f500

You may have a bad convergance chip, a bad CRT( picture tube ), CRT Board ( board pluged into the picture tube),or a bad video chip. Although this is somwhat a common problem on this model of set, I have found many different fixes. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck
